Hoping to enter a Coast League outfit this year to accompany their Premier League and reserves teams, the Eagles were last week forced to pull the pin on their plans due to lack of numbers.

It will leave 10 other teams to fight it out when the season kicks off March 8.

“It was purely a numbers game. We haven’t had the guys show up,” Davies said.

“Because we have got the two Premier League teams … it was really just numbers. We thought we would have got a lot more players and we got a lot of players for our two main squads but not enough for the Coast League.

“We definitely wouldn’t rule it out (again next season). Clubs have guys and girls show up all the time and it puts pressure on everyone when there’s competition for spots (from lower teams).”

Davies has held various roles in his 16 years at the club, but has re-assumed the presidency position he filled in 2017.

He said he had already learnt a lot after taking over from Michael Opie.

“We have a strong team on the committee and we’re all working in the same direction. We have got a good group of people,” he said.

“It’s a club that we try to push as a family club. I want to see improvement and players enjoying themselves. I want to keep everyone happy and enjoying their football.”
