MUSGRAVE will enter uncharted territory in this weekend’s Coast League grand finals after securing a piece of club history on Saturday night.

The Mustangs continued a season of promise with victory in the Coast League and Coast League Reserves preliminary finals, marking the first time the club’s top two sides have qualified for the decider.

The first team set up a grand final showdown with champions Broadbeach at 4pm this Saturday with a 3-2 win over Southport, while the reserves will face the Dolphins at 11am after beating Kingscliff 3-1.

KNIGHTS KNOW THEY MUST LIFT FOR FINAL

Having finished runners up to Broadbeach in the championship race and also taken part in the Premier League playoff against Mudgeeraba, first team coach Jason Shultz said the season had already been a success.

“We’re a proud club and one of the founding clubs on the Coast, so it was a big night (on Saturday),” he said.

“If you told me at the beginning of the season that we’d come second only by a couple of points, have a chance at playoffs to go to Premier League and also get to a grand final, I’d say ‘I’ll take that’. It has been a great season for us, for both grades.

COAST SQUAD NAMED FOR BATTLE WITH US OUTFIT

“We recruited really well and we’ve got a good bunch of guys. They just fitted into our club culture really well. I think that was a massive part of it and I think our season has been good.”

Musgrave came storming out of the blocks against Southport, racing to a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes before turning a 2-1 halftime lead into a 3-2 victory.

Their results against Broadbeach this season have been mixed, losing 3-1 in Round 7 before handing out a 4-0 thrashing last month.

Less than three weeks later, they fell 4-2 to the Dolphins in the major semi.

WARNING WEIGH PREMIER LEAGUE FUTURE

“We’ve definitely learnt to limit the chances of what they’re good at, which is set pieces. They’ve been exceptional,” Shultz said of Broadbeach.

“We’ve had a heavy loss to them as well so it’s just one of those things, I don’t think there’s much in it between our two teams. I think (in the grand final) it’ll be not only who wants the game more but who is the smartest.”
