FLEDGLING NPL Women’s club Mudgeeraba have joined forces with female football powerhouse Robina City in a bid to turn around their ailing fortunes.
With the Wallabies’ four female NPL teams - under-13, 15, 17 and women – combining for just 10 wins in 83 games in their debut campaign in 2018, the club will team with Robina to operate a talent centre for female football development from next season.
The joint venture – to be rebranded Coast FC in 2020 pending Football Queensland approval - will serve as a feeder into the NPL and Brisbane Women’s Premier League, which Robina will enter next year.
The clubs will also share resources, including hosting of games, and training facilities, while players will be able to step up from Robina’s top side into Mudgeeraba’s NPLW outfit.
“It’s two of the biggest female clubs on the Gold Coast getting together to make things better for women’s football and make things better for the future,” Mudgeeraba president John White said.
“What we’re going to finish with is Mudgeeraba and Robina working together in a joint venture in 2020 and that will consist of a team in the NPL Women’s and a team in the Brisbane Women’s Premier League.”
SIBLINGS TREKKING OWN PATH AFTER DAD’S LEAGUE CAREER
Robina won this year’s Coast League grand final and also reached the Premier League decider.
A joint statement from Mudgeeraba and Robina said they both had “a long and proud history of providing a pathway for females to learn and develop as footballers”.
“Partnering delivers a power club for female football,” the statement read.
