Moore family looking to clean sweep national Surf Rescue Championships after Queensland success

The Moore family made a clean sweep of their respective divisions at the Queensland Surf Rescue Championships and father Andrew says it’s not out of the question they can do the same at nationals.

THE Moore family made a clean sweep of their respective divisions at the Queensland Surf Rescue Championships and father Andrew says it’s not out of the question they can do the same at nationals.

Andrew, 49, was crowned the 40+ Champion Lifesaver at Bilinga on Saturday while twin children Jack and Georgia, both 19, won the under-19 categories.

“It’s really special,” Andrew Moore said of the wins.

“It’s a great thrill watching your kids compete and they did fantastic when tested on all aspects of surf lifesaving.

“I’m very proud to have been there with them and to be part of it myself was great.

“It’s not often you get three gold medals in the family. It’s a nice surprise. It’s the first time we have all done it at the same time.”

Andrew’s wife Nicola was also part of the day, watching her husband and children while volunteering as an official on the beach at the event.

All three have now qualified for nationals, to be held on April 1, and the Northcliffe representatives want to mirror their success against the best in Australia.

“It will be a lot harder but it’s even hard to get through states because Queensland has been at the forefront of this particular event,” Moore said.

“But when you add in the guys from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, there are some good athletes from all over.

“Georgia is a three-time Australian gold medallist and Jack has won before too. I have a few silvers and bronze so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. The planets would have to align.”
