WHAT did you get your mum for her birthday?

Yesterday at the Aussies, Northcliffe’s Georgia Miller brought in her mum Jenny’s birthday with an ironwoman title after fending off teammate Courtney Hancock and Kurrawa’s Brielle Cooper to take out her maiden national iron medal.

“My mum’s birthday is today and my elder sister Alisha who’s at home, she’s just had a baby and they’re all on the live stream watching,” she said.

“I know they would have been cheering me on.

“My dad’s a marshal so he’s right in the action and it’s so great to have so many friends on the beach and everyone is really happy for each other today.”

The result caps off a fairytale season for Miller who achieved a rare treble including the Nutri-Grain Ironwoman series and Coolangatta Gold in her first season at Northcliffe.

“It’s going to be very hard to top,” Miller said.

“I said to Floody (coach Naomi Flood) ‘what are you going to do to me now, can the training get any harder?’”

“She said ‘oh you wait until next season,’ so we’ll see how we go.

“I’m looking forward to a break now.”

The lead changed several times over the course of the race with Miller’s teammate Hannah Sculley establishing an early advantage during the board stage.

Miller was never far from the front and was one of seven in the chase after the board.

“I was nervous looking at those conditions,” she said.

“I always say to the girls that I hate dumpy surf like that and we turn up and it’s like that.

“All the training in it has paid off and I’m over the moon right now.”

A slight mishap in the ski leg didn’t cost Miller as she rounded the can for the last time and turned for home.

“I actually made a rookie error and slewed my ski on the easiest bit of the wave,” she said.

“I got caught up in where I was in the race and tried to bring myself back in focus for the last leg of the swim and focus for the last leg.

“It didn’t cost me too much.”

Miller and Hancock went stroke for stroke in the swim phase and Hancock applied pressure the whole way home but it was Miller who caught the first wave and raced away to victory.

“An Australian title is so hard to win so this one is definitely up there,” she said.

“It’s amazing. I’m absolutely speechless, I did not think that was going to happen.”
