The Kurrawa product set up a solid lead during the ski leg but was mowed down by teammate Matt Poole in the board, paving the way for a dramatic finish.

With just 2km to go, 27-year-old Bevilacqua made his move and came out on top ahead of Poole and Mermaid Beach’s James Lacy (third).

After stopping twice during the final 7km, including once to take her shoes off, Rogers powered ahead of Sydney’s Jemma Smith to win by mere metres.

Northcliffe Star and three-time Gold champion Courtney Hancock claimed bronze.
