Two sisters from Miami State High School are driving the Queensland Reds charge to seize back the National under-17s Rugby Sevens title from New South Wales.
The Levi sisters, Maddi, 17, and 16-year-old Teagen, have both been selected in the Queensland Maroons Under-17s Rugby Sevens team to take on the National Youth Sevens tournament on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.
The sisters were stars of Miami State High’s Queensland All Schools State Championships in October but have set their sights on taking their skills to the international level.
Australian Youth Sevens selectors will be in the crowd at Sunshine Coast Stadium headhunting talent to join the team for the World Schools Sevens tournament in Auckland the following weekend.
“It’s a really fantastic opportunity, not just for them personally but to represent the school as well,” Miami’s head of Rugby Sevens excellence Matt Chapman said.
“These are girls who have worked pretty hard this year and in previous years since we started the program.
“It’s always good to have role models in the school that younger girls can train with, not just the obvious ones playing for Australia.”
17 female Gold Coast talents have been selected for the weekend long tournament.
