AS Alberton Ormeau, Burleigh, Broadbeach Robina and Southport Labrador prepare to step up their Kookaburra Cup premiership assaults today, the Bulletin asked the four captains for their finals predictions.
COREY GALLOWAY (ALBERTON ORMEAU)
Regular season finish: Minor premiers
Team to beat: Broadbeach. Because they’ve made the finals pretty much every year they’ve got those more experience players. I personally think they’ve flown under the radar, even though they’ve finished third.
Why your team can win it: We can win because every player does their part. There hasn’t been one standout all year, every player has contributed. We take it to the other teams and play a very aggressive style.
Alberton Ormeau player to watch: Steven Page
Rival player to watch: Sean Fitzsimmons (Broadbeach Robina)
UNDER-PRESSURE HURRICANES HOPPING ON FRONT FOOT
TJ MILLER (BURLEIGH)
Regular season finish: Second
Team to beat: I think Alberton have the most well rounded side but Southport are the danger with strike players and those players win big games
Why your team can win it: We have the best bowling attack in the competition and big game players.
Burleigh player to watch: Rhys McCarthy. He’s been quiet for a few games but as we saw last year he steps up in the big occasions.
Rival player to watch: Nic Peterson (Southport Labrador). Again big players win big matches and he is up there with the best of them.
CATS KEEN TO RIGHT FINALS WRONGS
SEAN FITZSIMMONS (BROADBEACH ROBINA)
Regular season finish: Third
Team to beat: Alberton Ormeau
Why your team can win it: Broady have a great mix of experience and youth.
Broadbeach Robina player to watch: Reece McDonald/Tom Scriven
Rival player to watch: Corey Galloway (Alberton Ormeau)/Nic Peterson (Southport Labrador)/Rhys McCarthy (Burleigh)
FINALS-BOUND TIGERS ‘CAN BEAT ANYONE’
SIMON BELSTON (SOUTHPORT LABRADOR)
Regular season finish: Fourth
Team to beat: Alberton Ormeau
Why your team can win it: We believe we are the best team in the comp when we play to our potential … no better time to deliver.
Southport Labrador player to watch: Wade Kilborn
Rival player to watch: Rhys McCarthy (Burleigh)
