GEOFF Ogilvy faces a big test to win a second Australian PGA Championship this week as he prepares to play in the tournament for the first time since its shift to Royal Pines.
But before the 2008 champion began the Round 1, Ogilvy took on another stiff challenge in the form of young golfers Rory and Ronald.
The young pair were caddies for Ogilvy during Wednesday’s Pro-Am event but took on the 2006 U.S. Open winner on the 16th hole, a 172m par 3 where a million dollars will be up for grabs to anyone who can get a hole-in-one during the Australian PGA Championships.
Ogilvy gave the juniors a one shot handicap and a closer tee shot and the budding golfers took it up to one of Australia’s greatest.
Ronald matched it with Ogilvy, with both making the green in two while Rory put himself in the frame with a solid chip into the green.
COAST GOLFER: ‘IT WILL SET ME UP FOR YEARS’
Ogilvy managed to shoot even-par but faced a nervous wait as Ronald got within range with his first putt before putting for what would have been a bogey and nett par to equal his idol.
He just missed while Rory finished with a nett double bogey in a mammoth effort on one of the toughest holes on the course.
It was a moment neither will forget any time soon with Ogilvy gifting both with signed balls.
