FOUR Gold Coasters have been selected for the South Queensland representative side despite the Thunder going winless across the weekend of Schaeffer Shield cricket.

The Coast’s premier club cricketers headed to Maroochydore for three Twenty20s on Saturday – headlined by a high-scoring tie – and a 50-over match on Sunday against Sunshine Coast that went down to the wire.

Gold Coast’s chase of 295 for victory was driven by half-centuries to Steve Baker, Ryan Soars and Sam Winton, but they were unable to muscle a six off the last ball to steal victory.

Queens ace Jimmy Spargo, who blitzed 112 of his side’s 190-run total in the tied T20, was the competition’s leading runscorer.

He will be joined in South Queensland colours by club teammates Sam and Harry Winton plus Broadbeach Robina stalwart Sean Fitzsimmons.

Burleigh batsman Jasper Schoenmaker also got the nod at under-21 level and will captain that side.
