KURRAWA Ironman Matt Poole has put together one of the most dominant Nutri-Grain series in recent memory to finish first in Round 2 at Burleigh Heads on Sunday.
After finishing second to clubmate Matt Bevilacqua at the Coolangatta Gold last month, Poole showed his experience and class to take the lead in the series.
By the half way mark of the race, the man who is in his 13th straight professional series had established a 300m lead ahead of Alexandra Headlands young fun Cooper Williams and Australian Ironman champion Max Brooks.
Poole was so far in front that he swam straight through the chasing pack after rounding the cans in the second swim leg, almost colliding with those trying to catch him.
Giving his dad and handler a hug on the run to the finish line, Poole cruised to the finish line ahead of Tanyn Lyndon and Currumbin’s Ben Carberry.
