According to Inverell runner Marina Woodward, who yesterday ran her first marathon, there’s no place she’d rather be on her special day.

After running the half marathon last year and also taking on the 10km fun run in the past, a pact with a friend lured Woodward back to the Coast to take on her biggest challenge yet.

“My girlfriend and I are both the same age,” she said.

“We always said that we would run a full marathon the year that we turned 42.

“They announced the dates for the marathon this year and it happened to be on my birthday so I thought I had to do this one on this day.”’

“The sense of achievement will be worth it at the end.”

On hand to cheer on their mum is Woodward’s family in what might be her last long distance run.

“I have my husband, my nine-year-old and seven-year-old along the course so I’ll see them at various places,” she said.

“I promised my boys that I would ‘retire’ after this one and stick to shorter runs.

“This afternoon is going to be a bit of family time a bit of relaxation and maybe a massage.”
