GOLD Coast Knights NPL coach Grae Piddick believes that a number of his players have what it takes to succeed on the national football stage after three Knights were recognised at the 2019 NPL awards.
A few weeks after taking out their maiden title after defeating Olympic 2-1 in September’s decider, Matthew Schmidt, Max Brown and Oskar Dillon were named in the NPL team of the season.

Dillon, who scored a sublime goal from a free kick in the grand final, was also named the league’s young player of the year.
It’s enough for Piddick to earmark the defender as a future gold Coast A-League hope.
“He’s a young player but he’s also one of the best defenders in the competition,” he said.
“He has the potential and ability to play at the next level.”
Piddick also believes that first year player Brown and Schmidt have what it takes to take the next step.
“To score 13 goals from the midfield is really impressive so we’re expecting bigger and better things from him,” Piddick said of Brown.
“I think he (Schmidt), should’ve been in the top four nominees for player of the year but we had too many players taking votes off each other.
“They’re all knocking on the A-League’s door so the next step for us is developing players who can go and impact that competition.
“They gelled really well this season so there’s the potential for them to perform even better again next year which is exciting for us.”
