GOLDEN South captain Lisa Vincze doesn’t need the pain of the Jags’ 2009 grand final defeat to fuel her redemption quest. She’s already found it.
A member of the Coast side that fell to Brisbane East in the Queensland State Netball League decider nine years ago, Vincze has returned to the Jags this season following four years in Newcastle.
The 30-year-old centre’s final year south of the Tweed was marred by a knee reconstruction, before rejoining Golden South in pre-season.
The Molendinar resident has steadily built into the season, steering the side to third spot on the back of three wins and a draw from the opening eight rounds.
While the Jags are focused on continuing their finals push in tonight’s battle with Brisbane West, Vincze said the season had already delivered a piece of personal satisfaction.
“For me, this is a real redemption season in terms of proving I could come back from an ACL (injury) and showing I could play just as well as I could beforehand,” the former Australian Netball League star said.
“I don’t think I carry that (pain of 2009), seeing the Gold Coast do well is what we makes me stay involved and want Jags to do better.
“For me now being a bit older, what I love being involved with is the development of younger girls. I’ve had my day of playing for Queensland in the Australian Netball League.
“Now it’s about being a role model for them. I love winning and I want to win but for me it’s more about development of those younger girls.”
Coming off a 55-53 win over Brisbane East, the Jags will hit the court at Logan Metro at 8.15pm.
