A FIT-again Ben Lahiff is determined to put an injury-disrupted 2019 season behind him as the rising winger and two of his Gold Coast United teammates prepare to swap boards for boots in this year’s NPL.
A member of United’s NPL squad last season, Lahiff went unused due to injury but received an early Christmas present last month when he was handed another contract for 2020.
The 21-year-old is joined at the Surfsiders by senior-squad rookies Travis Taylor and Dom Morosini, with the trio to combine their football commitments with a passion for surfing.

A Kingscliff Wolves and Gold Coast City junior, Lahiff also spent time with Brisbane Strikers and Souths United but said he was desperate to make the most of his chance with United.
“It was a shocking year for me last season but hopefully I can turn things around in 2020 and keep fit and strong the whole year,” Lahiff said.
“I’m happy to play left or right wing but to be honest I’m keen just to be part of the squad and to work hard with the other lads to create a good team spirit ahead of the season.”
Murwillumbah product Morosini played six NPL games at right back for Kristian Rees’ side last year, while Robina City and Palm Beach junior Taylor is regarded as one of the club’s most promising attacking talents.
WORK NOT OVER FOR TOP-RANKED UNITED
Having steered the Surfsiders to seventh place in his first year at the helm, coach Rees said he was excited to see what his new additions could bring to the side this season.
“It’s brilliant that Dom and Travis have been able to step up from the youth (under-20) ranks under John Murphy’s guidance in 2019 and grab their chance at this level,” Rees said.
“They showed what they’re capable of (last) season playing with maturity beyond their years. All three of these young lads are quality players and young men.

“First and foremost they have the right attitude, they’re keen to learn and develop, plus they have the skills and ability to match. If they continue to apply themselves and work hard there’s every chance that they will be big players for us this season and in the years to come.”
