GOLD Coast United will roll out yet another debutant tonight when Serbian goalkeeper Luka Zoric gets his first taste of National Premier Leagues Queensland action.
Zoric moved to Australia at the age of 14 and spent four years at Broadbeach United before returning to Serbia for a six-month stint.
His United opportunity has arisen in whirlwind fashion – much like fellow recruit Lochie Reus – coming together within a fortnight.
“I got a call to come in the morning to a session at 5:30 (that afternoon) and I used my opportunity so they said they wanted to see me more,” Zoric said.
“I came to the other session and I guess I did well so they said they wanted to sign me.”
Professionalism was the first word that came to mind asked about his early impressions of the A-League aspiring club.
“Very high standards from coaches and the players are really switched on every session. I really like that,” Zoric, 19, said.
He is hoping to start against the Brisbane Strikers at 6pm at Perry Park. United’s women will be in action from 3pm at Gatton, where they will take on the South West Queensland Thunder.
United are raring to go after what proved a timely washout for No.1 goalkeeper Meghan Kealy-Hawkins.
The 18-year-old would have missed last weekend’s game with a shoulder injury but has now recovered.
Kealy-Hawkins joined United from the Gold Coast Knights and said the team are starting to gel well.
