THEY have conquered them once already this season.
Now, the Gold Coast Knights are adamant they have discovered the secret to downing NPL leaders Peninsula Power again as they prepare to put their season on the line at the Croatian Sports Centre tonight.
Trailing the Power by 12 points but with three games still in hand, the fourth-placed Knights can keep their title aspirations well and truly alive with victory in their mouth-watering Round 21 encounter from 6.30pm.
MORE PAIN FOR PALM BEACH AS SECOND STAR DEPARTS
While the Power took the spoils with a 2-1 triumph when the sides met in early March, the Knights exacted revenge last month with a 4-2 extra-time win in Round 6 of the FFA Cup.
The result has given the hosts confidence they can make it two on the trot in their Carrara clash.
“Power have in recent weeks had their first defeat in the league and then we have beaten them in the cup so we have a lot of confidence we can beat them,” Knights striker and captain Sam Smith said.
CLUB SCRAMBLING FOR LAST-MINUTE REPLACEMENT
“Winning can become very much a habit and they got into a very good habit last year in the QPL and they took that into the NPL this year. Once they have got that loss, maybe there’s a few doubts that have started creeping in and hopefully we can take advantage of that.
“It could be a decent time to play them. I wouldn’t say our season is on the line but it’s a bit of a six-pointer.
“If we lose the game, Power have a very good chance of winning the premiership but if we win the game we think we are very much back in the race.”
The Knights are coming off a 2-0 defeat of Sunshine Coast last weekend, while the Power downed Brisbane Roar Youth 3-2.
