THE Gold Coast Dolphins have set up an elimination final showdown with Ipswich-Logan after flexing their Twenty20 title muscle in yesterday’s Katherine Raymont Shield fixtures at Robina.

The Dolphins’ women went two from two in the final round of T20 games at Bill Pippen Oval, crushing Wests by seven wickets before defending 6-128 against University of Queensland.

“We now finish outright second in the T20 (competition),” coach Garry Lovett said.

“(It was a) great effort by the girls to go two from two and under some pretty hot conditions. It definitely gives us a couple of things to work on before the T20 final next week.”

Having restricted Wests to 6-77 in game one, the Dolphins (3-78) cruised home in the 11th over on the back of Carly Fuller (28 off 23) and former Queensland Fire all-rounder Belinda McDougall (28 off 19).

The latter, who made her comeback in last weekend’s T20s, then wound back the clock against UQ with 58 off 50 balls in a total of 6-128.

In reply, the Blues finished 5-99 as Roxanne Thomson took 2-18 to go with 2-6 against Wests.

The semi final will be played at 10am on Sunday, likely at Robina.

Despite having little to play for, the Dolphins’ men signed off on their T20 campaign with victory over Toombul on Saturday and a remarkable tie against Redlands yesterday.

With Jack Cooper smashing 118 from 51 balls, including seven sixes and 15 fours, the Coast side was bowled out for 190 in their first game, with Toombul finishing 7-169 in reply.

Yesterday, they scrambled to 5-167 thanks to Jack Hargreaves (70 not out off 51) and Max Houlahan (48 of 31) after Redlands posted 8-167.

Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann was the best with the ball with 2-21 from four overs, while Trent Arnold (2-30) and Liam Hope-Shackley (2-35) were also key.
