THE Gold Coast’s emergence as a major breeding ground for Queensland talent will be broadcast to the nation tomorrow as four local heroes return home for a piece of domestic cricket history.
Gold Coast Dolphins quartet Michael Neser, Matt Kuhnemann, Max Bryant and Xavier Bartlett are part of a 12-man Bulls squad that will take on Western Australia from 9.30am in the first domestic one-day fixture to be held at Metricon Stadium.
While fast bowler Bartlett could yet be the unlucky man to miss out on a place in the final XI, selection of all four Dolphins would mark just the second time they have played together for Queensland after steering the Bulls to a Marsh One-Day Cup victory against South Australia last month.
COAST HOMECOMING KEY IN NESER TEST PUSH
The 20-year-old, who made his Sheffield Shield debut in a winning effort against South Australia two weeks ago, said the chance to play alongside his clubmates would be a memorable moment.
“We’ve played a few club games (together) and we played a one-dayer earlier this year but it would be pretty cool to all play together in a game at Metricon on the Gold Coast,” the former Australian under-19 quick said.
“I think we’ve got a group from the Dolphins going down (to watch) so it will be good to get that support. Hopefully if we all get picked we can get a win together.
“I’ve never played at Metricon. We’ve trained there the past couple of days and the wicket should be good. It will be a tough game against WA but hopefully if I get my chance I can do my role for the team.”
Struck down by stress fractures in his back three times, Bartlett has hit the ground running this season.
‘I WAS A BIT NERVOUS COMING INTO THAT GAME’ - DOLPHIN’S ADMISSION
Having claimed a career-best haul of 4-42 for the Dolphins against University of Queensland on October 12, the Adelaide-born star was chosen for a maiden Shield appearance just days later and fitted in seamlessly with match figures of 3-64.
With 11 List A appearances also under his belt, Bartlett said he was beginning to feel at home in Queensland colours.
“I’ve played a few games now and I’m starting to get not as nervous. It’s still obviously a challenging test but being around the group for a few years I feel a lot more comfortable,” he said.
“I feel like the ball’s coming out good. I’m going into all games now full of confidence and full of fitness.
“It was really good to get the opportunity (in the Shield). Obviously four-day cricket at that level is a big challenge and I was lucky enough to get picked but I thought I bowled reasonably well and it was good to get a few wickets and a win.

“Everyone has been pretty happy (with how I’m performing). I’m in a good place at the moment.”
Tomorrow’s game, which follows Big Bash League and T20 Internationals at Metricon last season, is Queensland’s second-last in the Marsh Cup, with victory potentially securing a spot in the November 26 final.
