AUSTRALIAN limited-overs paceman Billy Stanlake will dip his toe into the waters of long form cricket next week, with a host of Gold Coast Dolphins stars to join him in the Queensland second XI.

Dolphins product and former The Southport School student Stanlake will play the first innings of the Queensland Academy of Sport’s Futures League clash with Victoria beginning Monday as he looks to build his red-ball credentials.

The 24-year-old, who played two Sheffield Shield games in 2015 before injuries intervened, has been a limited overs specialist this summer, playing for Australia in ODI and T20 matches as well as for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

He took 1-33 from 12 overs for South Brisbane against Sunshine Coast in Queensland Premier Cricket last weekend and will be replaced by Wests paceman Blake Edwards for the second innings of the Futures League fixture at Allan Border Field.

“Bill has a good chance to get some bowling under his belt now before the end of the season,’’ Queensland Cricket chairman of selectors Justin Sternes said.

BROADBEACH’S RESPONSE TO BALL-TAMPERING SAGA

“He wasn’t included in the current Australian ODI squad in India so we can look at what opportunities there are to build his bowling in the longer formats like Premier Cricket and second XI matches. We’ve got two Shield games left to play at the Gabba as well so we might see how things look there depending on a few things.”

The game also marks a Futures League debut for Gold Coast all-rounder Josh Kann, who smashed 60 and took 7-32 on day one of the Dolphins’ (265 all out) first grade battle with Norths (7-68) last Saturday.

COAST BALL TAMPERER BREAKS HIS SILENCE

The 19-year-old will line up alongside Max Bryant and Matt Kuhnemann for the Dolphins on day two at Ian Healy Oval tomorrow before all three take on the Victorian second XI.

Sitting fourth, the Dolphins’ women will continue their push for a top-two finish when they travel to University of Queensland in their penultimate one-day game on Sunday.
