Gold Coast Dolphins fast bowler Trent Arnold ready to do battle with brother Josh against Redlands

QUEENSLAND Premier Cricket preparations have been a little different for Gold Coast siblings Trent and Josh Arnold this week.

QUEENSLAND Premier Cricket preparations have been a little different for Gold Coast siblings Trent and Josh Arnold this week.

Still living together in the family home at Mudgeeraba, the pair have been counting down the days until their first two-day meeting on opposing sides.

While Gold Coast quick Trent, 22, has been a mainstay of the Dolphins attack this season, Josh has made every post a winner after moving to Redlands in the off-season.

Having started in second grade at his new club, the 25-year-old has since collected 23 first-grade wickets at an average of 20.83 to keep the Tigers in the top-four hunt.

The brothers squared off in a remarkable Twenty20 tie at Peter Burge Oval in January, but have taken the friendly banter to another level in preparation for tomorrow’s encounter at Robina.

“Of course there’s (been) talk, just stirring him up really,” Trent said.

“Obviously they can still make finals and we’re out so it can be taken as a joke from us. It’s all friendly.

“We had a T20 (against each other) earlier in the year. It was a little bit strange. It was pretty full on with a bit of banter.

ACTIONS LOUDER THAN WORDS FOR NEW LEADERS

“I’m happy for (Josh) if he wanted to have more opportunity (at Redlands). It’s up to him at the end of the day.”

While Josh Kann stole the show with 7-87 in the Dolphins’ upset of Norths last Saturday, Arnold (1-37) was again steady to take his season tally to nine wickets at 43.44.

Victory over Redlands could see the Coast outfit finish the season as high as fifth, while Redlands will be hoping fourth-placed Valleys fall to Wests.

Trent Arnold said the Dolphins, who will again be boosted by the inclusion of Max Bryant and Matt Kuhnemman, would be keeping the foot on the pedal in the final round despite having little to play for.

“We will still be competitive, like last week knocking off Norths,” he said.

“That will give us good confidence heading into next year. You don’t want to go out on a losing note, you still want to win the game.”

Sitting third, the Dolphins’ women will continue their push for a top-two finish when they host Wests in the final round of the Katherine Raymont Shield’s one-day competition on Sunday.
