THE Gold Coast Thunder have sealed a third-straight South Queensland under-18 crown after edging out Darling Downs in today’s winner-takes-all one-dayer in Gatton.
With both sides entering the showdown on the back of dual victories on Saturday, the Thunder ensured the McPherson Shield would return to the Coast with a four-wicket win.

Hayden Wood (3-47), Jai Kurt (2-31) and Jamison Allan (2-38) were instrumental in dismissing Darling Downs for 184 in the 38th over, before Lachlan Hinds played a lone hand of 95 from 88 balls to steer the Thunder home in the 34th over.
Hinds also top-scored in Saturday’s one-day win over SEQ, hitting 41 in Gold Coast’s total of 8-193.

Kurt (3-25), Allan (3-27) and Wood (2-16) again did the damage with the ball to dismiss SEQ for 161.
The Thunder then backed up the success in Saturday night’s sole Twenty20 against Wide Bay, with openers Connar Robson (54) and Mitch Freeman (44) putting on 108 for the first wicket before Keats Chipps (31 not out) applied the finishing touches in a total of 5-168.

Wide Bay managed just 5-134 in reply as Wood (3-21) continued his rampage with the help of Kurt (1-16) and captain Connor Brown (1-23).
