After falling to Bruno Vifuaviwilli in a controversial points decision in March, Robina-based Dib gained revenge at Tweed Heads on Saturday night with a unanimous points win of his own against the 23-year-old Tanzanian.

The rematch victory, which took Dib’s pro record to 22 wins and three losses, not only delivered the Oceania belt but could also catapult him into the WBA top 10 when rankings are updated next month.

With a world title bout now on the horizon, Dib, 29, said he would only take on worthy fighters as he continues honing his craft under new trainer Angelo Hyder.

“I don’t want to stay inactive for too long but we’ll just have to see what happens. I only want good opponents, I don’t want any opponents that I’m just going to blow out in a round,” the former Emmanuel College and Benowa State High School student said.

“I’m a quality fighter that should only be in with good opponents and I’m only damaging myself by blowing guys out in a round.

“My team will work out the best possible opponent for the next fight. I should be in the top 10 (when rankings are released).

“This is the first time I have won a WBA title so we’ll see, hopefully I can get as high as possible and get close to a world title shot.”

COUGARS HUNGRY FOR MORE HISTORY

The father-of-two said the result against Vifuaviwilli was sweet revenge.

“I didn’t feel out of control, not for one second the entire fight. It was a lot of emotional joy (to win) but in saying that I’m still disappointed that the last loss is on my record because it shouldn’t be there.

“I used the last fight as a learning curve and benefited from it. That’s the only thing you can do with a negative.”
