GEORGIA Redmayne and Howard Biddle have emerged as the big winners from the Gold Coast Dolphins’ end of season presentation on Saturday.
Redmayne was a sensation in her first year at the Dolphins, amassing 691 runs at an incredible average of 115.17.
The Hobart Hurricanes WBBL wicketkeeper-bat was rewarded with the statistics-based Belinda Matheson women’s player of the year award, as well as the club-wide players’ player Damian Walls Medal, which is decided on 3-2-1 votes.
“She has been a standout performer in Queensland Premier Cricket and it is probably no coincidence either that the girls have had their strongest year, winning their first premiership in the last half a dozen attempts, with Georgia at the helm,” club president Jeff Pfaff said.
“I think bigger things are coming for her: I wouldn’t be surprised if she is added to the Heat and Fire squads for next year.”
Biddle was a key figure in the Dolphins men’s program despite playing only three games in first grade and was recognised with the Salmon family senior men’s player of the year trophy.
The all-rounder led second grade strongly, scoring 684 runs at 34.20 with the bat and taking 24 wickets at 19.58.
“Howard has been a solid performer for the club for a few years now,” Pfaff said.
“He has been there or thereabouts as a first grade player but he has really led second grade well by taking them to premierships last year and a lot of those guys have gone on out of that grade to be solid first grade performers now too.
“Howard has always been one who gets on with it with the bat and then niggles people out with the ball.”
