Football Gold Coast hoping to have a decision on 2019 Premier League by end of the week

FOOTBALL Gold Coast have moved closer to a decision on the make-up of next year’s Premier League and Coast League One following Tuesday night’s board meeting.

FOOTBALL Gold Coast hope to have a decision on the make-up of next year’s Premier League and Coast League One by the end of the week after Tuesday night’s board meeting failed to produce a definitive outcome.

With Murwillumbah last month dropping out of the Premier League after six years, the six-member FGC board has been left to find a suitable solution for their top two men’s competitions.

Their eight-team plan for the 2019 Premier League remains an option, as does combining the two competitions.

The idea of a 10-team Premier League has also been raised, but is believed to have been all but ruled out because of the impact it would have on the Coast League.

FGC general manager Damien Bresic said a decision was close but he would return to the board this week to “dot the i’s and cross the t’s”.

Southport president Gerry Glaser earlier this week expressed his disappointment the club was not given Murwillumbah’s spot after the Warriors lost the Premier League playoff to Mudgeeraba.
