Despite being set to face a gruelling race schedule at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea beginning July 21, Australian swimming star Emma McKeon is confident her body will stand up to a week of rigorous racing.
The Australian Dolphins swim team have spent the week preparing for the meet in Nagaoka, Japan before travelling to South Korea next week.
“We have a lot of races in one week so knowing that I’ve done it before and gaining confidence off that,” McKeon said.
“It’s always challenging doing it every year but knowing that I’ve done it before is giving me a lot of confidence so that’s what I’m going off.”
The Griffith University student said that the nature of training camps forced the Dolphins to push themselves to their limit.

“From my training, I’ve been working really hard in the pool but also in the gym so getting a lot stronger was sort of where I was lacking,” she said.
“To have all the girls pushing hard and challenging each other only pushes us harder and makes us go faster.
“This week, I’m keeping the work up because I do have such a big program so I’ve got to keep the work up as close to the meet as I can but next week when we get to South Korea I’ll start to drop off a lot more and focus on my power and my skills.”
The championships kick off next week with live streaming available via FINA’s website.
