Dolphins left to rue dropped catches as Ipswich-Logan dish out Katherine Raymont Shield defeat

GOLD Coast’s Katherine Raymont Shield side found out the hard way that catches win matches today as Ipswich-Logan all but ended their top-two aspirations.

GOLD Coast’s Katherine Raymont Shield side found out the hard way that catches win matches today as Ipswich-Logan all but ended their top-two aspirations.

Entering the one-day fixture at Bill Pippen Oval knowing they would likely need to win their last four games to host a semi final, the Dolphins were unable to defend 239 against a Hornets outfit sitting last with just one win.

BATTLERS NOT OUT TO SPOIL FINALS PARTY

After posting a more-than-competitive total on the back of knocks from Amy Riddell (66) and Belinda McDougall (42), the hosts were left to rue a number of dropped catches as Georgia Voll (65) and Sterre Kalis (43) cashed in to steer their side home with five wickets and nine balls to spare.

Occupying the fourth and final playoff spot, the Dolphins must now win two of their last three games to ensure their campaign continues beyond the regular season.

“We’ll be OK. They’ll bounce back from this,” coach Garry Lovett said.

“It was a game we should’ve won and could’ve won. It was just those three crucial catches.

“The bowlers did the job, we just let them down in the field. We just didn’t finish off as well as we have in the past.

“With the bat they all got some starts and we lost our way from about six down. We probably missed out on 20-odd runs. It wasn’t one of our better performances.”

Riddell (1-25), Hiruni Don (1-31) and Grace Parsons (1-42) were the wicket-takers for the Dolphins, while Rebecca Van Helvoirt (30) and Georgia Redmayne (25) also made contributions with the bat.

They host Valleys next Sunday.
