SIX STRAIGHT? THE SECRET TO CURRUMBIN’S POOL RESCUE SUCCESS
As the Vikings marched towards their sixth straight national pool rescue title, emerging superstar Lily Nicholson picked up seven goal medals and broke one Australian record while grandfather John Lacheca won silver in the 70 and over line throw.
“They’re two people under the same cap who were racing alongside each other all weekend which was fantastic,” said Currumbin pool rescue coach Kurt Wilson.
“We had 11-year-olds all the way up to opens racing together which was pretty cool to see because there’s not many opportunities on the surf lifesaving calendar where nippers race alongside Australian record holders.”

Though Currumbin have long dominated the pool rescue competition circuit, Wilson said that there was still a lot more to achieve in the pool to prepare the club for future success.
“They’ll start to become legacy holders in our program,” Wilson said of his elite pool rescue competitors.
“Natalie Peat (Aussies gold medallist) has already done a lot of mentoring work Lily Nicholson.
“Not only are they the best in the world but they’re now dragging the next generation up to their level.”
Athletes will now turn their attention towards the German Cup in November this year.
