Cricket Gold Coast hopeful of decision this week on fate of first grade’s washed out Twenty20 final

CRICKET Gold Coast hope to have an answer this week on a reschedule date for first grade’s washed out Twenty20 final, but there is a chance it could be moved away from Metricon Stadium.

CRICKET Gold Coast hope to have an answer this week on a reschedule date for first grade’s washed out Twenty20 final.

With no play possible in the October 13 battle between Southport Labrador and Alberton Ormeau, the CGC committee have been in contact with Metricon Stadium management to find another suitable date for the decider.

COAST CRICKETERS LIVING THE DREAM

The game was initially locked in at Metricon so the drop-in wicket could be tested before the T20 international – the Coast’s first taste of top-level cricket - between Australia and South Africa on November 17.

However, the game is now more likely to be played on the other drop-in pitch, which is being prepared for two Brisbane Heat Big Bash League games on December 22 and January 1.

CGC senior director Peter Goodchap conceded there was a chance the final may have to be taken away from Metricon, but remained optimistic a solution could be found.

T20 DECIDER A CHANCE TO MAKE A STATEMENT

“We’re hoping for the best but obviously it’s got to be done right for the other (international and BBL) games,” Goodchap said.

“We’re hoping to know (what’s happening) by the end of the week. It’s all up to the wicket preparation and what Cricket Australia want (Metricon management) to do.

“We don’t care (when the final is played), any time we can get on at Metricon we will use it. We’re being as flexible as we can be. If it’s a weekday, it doesn’t matter.

BULLSHARKS CIRCLING DESPITE RIVALS’ DOUBT

“Some time after the international they will have the second wicket up and we can hopefully have a match on that. That’s all up to Cricket Australia and how they want that preparation.”

“(If we can’t use Metricon) it means we will use one of the local grounds on a Sunday or something.”
