COOMERA coach Steve Macdonald says the challenge now for his giant-killing side is not to let their 2019 heroics go to waste next season.
Having defied all odds to reach the FFA Cup’s Round of 32 earlier this season, the Colts’ impressive Gold Coast Premier League run came to an end on Saturday as Burleigh Heads dished out a 2-0 loss in the preliminary final.
CITY SAVOUR THAT WINNIE FEELING
While pleased with his troops’ efforts throughout the year, Macdonald said they must find another gear in 2020.
“It’s been an unbelievable season but we’ve got to build now,” Macdonald, in his second year at the helm of the Colts, said.
“There’s been a lot of talk behind the scenes and (we have to make sure) we’re not standing still, we’re not going backwards, we have to build now. We’re probably a year ahead of schedule with where I thought we would be when I first took the job but that doesn’t mean we have next year off or we’re only happy to finish in the four again.
KNIGHTS THROUGH TO NPL GRAND FINAL
“We want to aim for top two and we want to be ambitious, we don’t want to go backwards. We don’t want to stay where we are.”
Macdonald also steered Coomera to a respectable sixth-placed finish last season, a surprise result for a side tipped by many to claim the wooden spoon.
