BROADBEACH United have climbed inside the Brisbane Women’s Premier League’s top four – at least temporarily – after edging out Gold Coast rivals Robina City last night.
With last week’s Round 4 battle with Coomera washed out, the unbeaten Dolphins returned to Nikiforides Family Park to face a Robina side coming off an 8-1 thrashing of Taringa Rovers.
And while there were signs of rust, a Gemma Hicks strike midway through the first half proved enough for Broadbeach to secure a 1-0 win and end Robina’s three-match unbeaten run.
The result carried the Dolphins, who beat Robina in last season’s Gold Coast Women’s Premier League grand final, into the top four but they will now wait on other results today and tomorrow before knowing exactly where they stand.
Southport host University of Queensland at 5pm tomorrow, while Coomera travel to North Brisbane at the same time.
