THE Gold Coast Knights have crashed out of the FFA Cup after producing arguably their worst performance of the season in a 5-1 loss to Brisbane Strikers last night.
Chasing a spot in the Round of 32 for the second-straight year, the Knights appeared on track for the national stage when a deflected Jayden Prasad strike opened the scoring in just the sixth minute at the Croatian Sports Centre.
But after levelling the scores 12 minutes later, the Strikers scored four unanswered goals after halftime to seal a massive cup upset.
HISTORY LOOMING FOR CLUB’S MILESTONE MAN
The Knights are third in the NPL and remain in the title hunt, while the Strikers have struggled for consistency to sit eighth.
The Coast’s hopes of Round of 32 qualification now rest with Surfers Paradise and Coomera.
Surfers host NPL outfit Olympic at 4pm today, while Coomera face the QPL’s Logan Lightning at Viney Park at 7pm.
