BOND University’s reaction upon the full-time whistle sounding said it all.
The Bull Sharks had just completed a 31-15 Queensland Premier Rugby win over Norths but players sunk to their haunches, knowing it had not been enough to keep their season alive.
The Robina club entered the match needing a bonus point victory to stay in the finals race and were attacking the Norths line deep into overtime for the final try they needed when a knock-on brought about a game-ending stoppage.

With fourth-placed Easts staying six points clear with one round to go after fending off Sunnybank 29-15, Bond are officially out of the hunt.
The Bull Sharks made a positive start to take a 17-5 lead into halftime before Norths rallied in front of their home crowd to bring the score back to 17-15.
That scoreline persisted until the last 10 minutes, when Bond scored twice.
Their narrow play-offs miss follows similar situations in 2016 and 2018.
They will get the chance to finish on a high with a Round 18 home game against lowly Sunnybank – and if they win that, they will clinch the Bunter Bowl silverware in some minor consolation.
