THE class of Sammy-Jo Johnson, Georgia Redmayne and Amy Riddell came to the fore as the Gold Coast Dolphins opened their Katherine Raymont Shield account in style against Ipswich-Logan yesterday.
A week after being humbled by 160 runs against Sandgate-Redcliffe on the first day of the season, the Dolphins turned the tables to crush the Hornets with seven wickets and almost 30 overs to spare as their big-name inclusions led the charge.
BOWLERS DELIVER IN DOLPHINS’ INCREDIBLE TIE
With in-form Queensland Fire star Johnson (3-19) and fellow quick Laura Lovett (3-12) tearing through the visitors’ top order to leave them 5-15 after just five overs, the Dolphins then turned to one-time skipper Riddell (3-27) to restrict Ipswich-Logan to 154 all out from their 50 overs.
Making her first appearance for the club, Hobart Hurricanes wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne (30 off 27) then combined with Riddell (35) to lay the platform for a successful chase, before Johnson (48 not out off 29) put the icing on the cake.
JUNIOR WORLD SERIES JUST THE START FOR COAST TEEN
“To play in the (wet) conditions that we did and to walk away with the result that we achieved was nothing but brilliance from the entire group,” coach Garry Lovett said.
The Dolphins will take on Valleys at Bill Pippen Oval in Round 3 on Sunday.
