“I was really excited and happy,” the 11-year-old said.
Now the Kurrawa young gun is back and ready to defend her title after training 12 times a week over the winter months.
Rayward said she’s always enjoyed the challenge of taking on boys after she started playing rugby league alongside them at the age of five.
Though with one Gold title already under her belt, Rayward has quickly turned her eyes towards another this weekend and maybe even one a couple years down the track.
“I’d be really proud of myself if I did,” she said.
“I’m going to try my best to do it!
“I definitely want to try and win it (the long course) when I’m older as well.”

Rayward has been competing for Kurrawa for four years now and earlier this year picked up gold medals at the Australian state titles in the ironwoman, swim and 1km beach run events.
While she dreams of being a professional ironwoman in the future, Rayward has also made state and national teams for five other different sports so far in 2019 including swimming, rugby league, cross-country, triathlon and athletics.
“I probably like nippers the best but rugby and the swimming and running involved make me good at the other sports,” she said.
“I really like doing all my sports with my siblings and training with them and trying to beat them.”
No matter the sport, you’ll always catch Rayward demolishing a big bowl of her favourite meal the night before any competition.
“Spaghetti bolognese is my favourite,” she said.
