ACTING Mudgeeraba president Dean Cooper is likely to pursue the role on a permanent basis as the Wallabies transition to life without club great John White.
With long-serving president White stepping down due to work commitments earlier this month, Cooper and club secretary Paul Cameselle will share the load for the rest of the season.
A former junior and senior player at Sid Bigg Park, Cooper returned to the committee this season after four years away and was a key figure in luring new coach Jamie Boelen back to the club.
BROADBEACH PRIMED FOR ANZAC BATTLE
As eager as ever to deliver success to Mudgeeraba, the 46-year-old said he had not ruled out entering the presidential race when the Wallabies hold their AGM at the end of the season.
“I’m interested in staying on. I’ve got my own ideas on where I think the club should be heading towards,” Cooper, who will focus on the seniors and leave Cameselle to concentrate on juniors, said.
“There’s a few projects I’d like to continue with and finish off. I’m very passionate about the seniors and trying to build a bigger junior base.
WALLABIES LOOKING AT PREMIER LEAGUE POSITIVES
“At the moment (Paul and I) are just there to try and support everyone. It’s just to help get through the rest of the season.
“I want to try and put (the club) in a better position than it is in now. I hate being around the bottom of the table (in Premier League).”
Key to the club’s revival could be Boelen.
The Premier League legend has endured a horror start to his senior coaching career, with the Wallabies losing their first four games by a combined total of 23 goals.
But having opened their account against Tweed United earlier this month before showing signs of promise in a 4-3 loss to Nerang, Cooper said they were on the up.
KNIGHTS STAR PUTS OFF-SEASON DRAMA BEHIND HIM
“Jamie brings experience and he loves the family orientated (culture) down there. We’re supporting him 100 per cent and the players are getting behind what he’s preaching,” he said.
“The seniors are now where we want them. I’m pretty happy with where we are at this stage.
“It’s just putting in the right things at the right time. It’s pretty positive.”
