After a short Easter break football is back this weekend with plenty of mouth-watering clashes and plenty of teams eager to lace up their boots off the back of rain interrupted opening rounds.

Far North and Gulf
After a brief pause for the Easter break, we’re all set to restart the season this weekend.
In the women’s division, reigning champions Leichhardt FC play just their second game of the season against Mareeba United on Friday night.
Lions have been starved of FQPL action over the opening month due to wet weather, while Mareeba have slipped from top spot to third after their loss last weekend.
The standout match of the round is the men’s clash between Marlin Coast Rangers and Edge Hill United, which shapes as an early contender for most anticipated match of the season. Following the exit of Crios O’Hare to Marlin Coast this season, there’s sure to be plenty of fireworks between the two sides.
Marlin Coast currently shared top spot with Mareeba United and Edge Hill sit in third having played one less game.

Gold Coast
It’s a crucial time in the season for second placed Gold Coast United, who host struggling side Peninsula Power at Coplick Family Sports Park this Saturday in NPL Women’s action.
Hoping to carry momentum from their midweek battle against Sunshine Coast Wanderers, United are in a rich vein of form and look set to be one of the teams to beat come season close.
Forward Bronte Rose has picked up where she left off last season, scoring six goals in eight matches.
United’s new signing Jayde Lowe has been influential in the midfield scoring three goals for her new club since joining in the summer.
Peninsula Power look to be a shadow of the team that inished in the top four last season but United will still need to be careful of their attacking threat, with new signing Anna Hirakawa currently sitting on an impressive six league goals herself.
This is set to be an exciting clash between two of Queenslands best women’s sides, make sure to head down to Coplicks Family Sports Park from 4.15pm on Saturday to catch the action.
FQPL 1
The high-flying Gold Coast Knights Women’s team look set to face a massive early season test, as they host Capalaba FC at the Croatian Sports Centre this weekend.
Invincible premiers and champions of the FQPL 3 South Coast competition in 2023, Knights were promoted two divisions into the second tier of Queensland football after their dominant season.
Knights have started life in FQPL 1 in fine form, recording a 6-0 win against rivals Broadbeach in round 1 and a 3-0 win over much fancied North Lakes United in round 2.
Knights know they will have to beat a tough Capalaba team, and some of the other top-class teams around them if they are to be promoted to Queensland’s top-flight.
Capalaba will be full of fight, having already showed this season that they are determined to bounce straight back up into the NPL Queensland competition after being relegated last season.
Forwards Amy Morland and Laura Sevil will be key for Knights going forward, while in-form Gold Coast United’s Paloma Goncalves Oliveira will continue to pull the strings from midfield.
The stage is set for a brilliant battle between two top sides, make sure to head out to the Croatian Centre at 6pm on Saturday to catch the action

Whitsunday Coast
Round 4 of the Kappa Queensland Cup delivered an entertaining encounter as Mackay Rangers FC battled it out against Magpies FC for a spot in Round 5 of the knockout tournament.
Despite a fierce contest, both teams remained deadlocked at full-time, leading to a tense penalty shootout to determine the Whitsunday Coast qualifier.
Magpies soared to victory and will now take on FQPL Wide Bay qualifiers, Across the Waves in Round 5.
Round 5 Preview
As the Easter break ends, anticipation builds for Round 5 action.
In the women’s competition all eyes will be on the clash between fourth-placed Magpies FC and second-placed Dolphins FC as both teams aim to secure the vital three points.
Meanwhile, Mackay Wanderers will face off against Mackay Rangers at Wanderers Park, with both sides eager to claim their first win of the season.
In the men’s competition, City Brothers will host Mackay Rangers in what promises to be an intense encounter.
Both teams suffered defeats in their Round 4 matches and will be determined to bounce back with a strong performance.
Mackay Rangers will be aiming to return to winning ways, while City Brothers will be eager to secure their first win of the season.

Sunshine Coast
After a brief pause for the Easter break, we’re all set to restart the FQPL Sunshine Coast season this weekend.
In the women’s competition, Woombye can move to within three points of joint leaders Maroochydore and Noosa with victory over a winless Kawana outfit, while Beerwah and Nambour will both be searching for a win to kickstart their post Easter run.
There’s plenty of tight match-ups in the men’s competition, with reigning premiers Caloundra facing Maroochydore.
Caloundra have started solid without setting the world on fire, bouncing back from an opening round loss with back-to-back wins to sit in fourth place.
Maroochydore have been hot and cold so far, with two wins and two losses from their first four games occupying sixth.

It’s been a brilliant start to the season for our SWQ Thunder FQPL 1 Men’s team, who currently sit in fourth place heading into their crucial weekend encounter against Caboolture Sports FC.
The Thunder travel to the ‘Snake Pit’ this Saturday after having a stop start couple of weeks due to Easter and weather.
Rain last week saw the Thunder’s cup clash against FQPL 1 rivals St George Willawong called off just after halftime, resigning the Thunder to a fourth straight loss in the Kappa Pro Series.
While the Thunder are yet to record a win in that competition, they are undoubtedly stronger for their experiences against National Premier Leagues opposition and have put together a strong league campaign so far.
Caboolture enter the weekend looking to prevent their fourth straight league defeat and are on a disappointing run after winning their first two games of the season, which included a win against the hotly tipped Logan Lightning, who themselves defeated Thunder in the last round of competition.
We are all set for an even clash between two top sides, with Thunder looking towards Luke Beutel and Riley Willmot to make the difference in a crucial battle.
The match kicks off at 6pm out at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, make sure to get out and support the Thunder in this crucial match

Northern
In Round 3 of the women’s Kappa Queensland Cup, MA Olympic showcased their dominance against Brothers Townsville at Hi Vista Park.
Monika Anderson led the charge with a double, while Page Malau-Aduli and Tamsin Brown also scored goals, resulting in a convincing 5-1 victory for MA Olympic.
In Round 4, MA Olympic continued their winning streak with an impressive 7-0 win against Townsville Warriors.
Anderson was unstoppable again, scoring four goals, while Tamsin Brown and Kizanne Mulder each added to the scoreline.
MA Olympic’s next challenge will be against the winner of the Far North and Gulf match between Southside Comets and Edge Hill United scheduled for Tuesday April 16.
Meanwhile, in last week’s Round 3 men’s match between Brothers Townsville and MA Olympic, Olympic suffered a 5-2 defeat at Hi Vista Park.
Jeremy Brockie earned himself man of the match with a hat-trick, while Enzo Barrales’ scored a double.
In a quick turnaround for Round 4, Brothers Townsville faced off against Burdekin FC on Saturday.
Hayden Griffin’s goal in the 16th minute and a Burdekin FC own goal in the 46th minute gave Brothers a comfortable lead going into halftime.
Burdekin managed to score in the 60th minute, but Brothers held on for a 2-1 victory. Brothers now await the Far North and Gulf winner of the Southside Comets and Leichhardt Lions match.

As the Easter break ends, anticipation builds for the action-packed Round 5 of the FQPL Northern competitions, set to start this Saturday. In the women’s, all eyes will be on Melrose Park as Townsville Warriors host Estates FC. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. Meanwhile, at another exciting matchup, top-of-the-table Brothers Townsville will welcome third place Riverway JCU at Hi Vista Park on Saturday afternoon.
Round 5 preview
In the FQPL men’s competition, spectators can expect an exciting showdown between current second place side Riverway JCU and third-placed Brothers Townsville FC at Hi Vista Park. The clash promises to be an entertaining match up as both teams vie for the crucial three points.
On Sunday, Saints Eagles Souths will travel to Ayr to face off against Burdekin FC.
A victory for Saints Eagles would promote them into fourth place on the ladder.
