'I'm tipping New Zealand' Haddin backs upset

It was one of the busiest weekend’s on the Coast for cricket so far this season, which had some nailbiting finishes, big scores and plenty of wickets.

Each week we dive through the matches and look at the performances of the weekend and who stood up for their side.

Players like Ruben Froenewald’s 4-28 to help his side claim victory against a premiership favourite, or Ryan Summers 50* batting at nine to get his side to a defendable total.

Dayne Siede – 100* (88)

Round 8, Mudgeeraba v Southport – Premier First Grade

Siede scored his first hundred of the premier grade season, guiding his side to a comfortable total of 214. He combined with Scott Sanderson (36) for a partnership of 119 for the fifth wicket.

Cody Durante – 85* (70)

Round 7, Palm Beach v Mudgeeraba – Premier First Grade

Durante came in during the 14th over at the score of two for not many and put together a strong partnership with opener Brent Anderson (58) and then later a sixth wicket partnership with James McNeil (62*) to set up a defendable total.

Jasper Schoenmaker – 69* (78)

Round 8, Burleigh v Broadbeach Robina – Premier First Grade

Chasing 163 for victory, Burleigh were in trouble at 2-21 before Schoenmaker came in and settled the ship with a well timed 69 not out. He had a 55 run partnership for the third wicket and a 44 run partnership for the fourth before helping his side pass the score four down.

Jackson Smith – 5-38 (7.5)

Round 8, Mudgeeraba v Southport – Premier First Grade

Gold Coast representative Jackson Smith was thrown the new ball for Mudgee and did exactly what he has done all year. He was brought back on late in the innings to wrap up the tail, claiming four of the last six wickets, the other two were run outs.

Harold Jones – 60 (75)

Round 8, Surfers Paradise v Helensvale – Premier First Grade

After bowling premiership favourite Helensvale out for just 110, Surfers Paradise looked in real trouble at 3-21. Jones came in when the score was 2-9 and watch two wickets fall in the space of 22 runs but held his nerve, almost being at the crease when his team crossed the line but fell when the score was at 98. Surfers won by five wickets.

Ryan Summers – 50* (42)

Round 6, Surfers Paradise v Runaway Bay – Premier Second Grade

Summers thought he was going to have a pretty relaxing day when it come to batting anyway when his side was 2-72, little did he know he was going to be in five runs and five wickets later. His 50* guided his side to 9-159 and helped them win the match by three wickets.

Alexander Hayes – 60* (44)

Round 6, Helensvale v Broadbeach Robina – Premier Second Grade

Helensvale were in all sorts of trouble at 6-83 and looked to be on their way to being bowled out very cheaply, before Hayes stepped up and guiding his side to 7-164 from the 40 overs.

Satwant Mangat – 5-19 (7.1)

Round 6, Coomera Hope Island v Alberton – Premier Second Grade

Coomera were bowled out for 152 and needed someone with the ball to guide them to victory, enter Satwant Mangat who ripped through the top order, claiming four of the first five batters to help bowl Alberton out for 52.

Lydon Gibbons – 82 (94)

Round 7, Mudgeeraba v Southport – Premier Second Grade

Gibbons opened the batting with Harry Maher (63) combining for a 80 run opening stand. His biggest partnership came with Luke Smith (61) for the third wicket, combining together with 121 runs.

Bailey Johnston – 67* (63)

Round 7, Southport v Mudgeeraba – Premier Second Grade

Chasing a massive 282, Southport needed someone to stand up after being in real trouble early at 7-38. Johnston couldn’t carry his side to victory but it was a standout performance when only two other batters made double figures.

Steven Van Der Walt – 106 (106)

Round 7, Surfers Paradise v Helensvale – Premier Second Grade

After making a duck on the Saturday, Van Der Walt wanted to step up to help his side in the double weekend. His 106 was supported by Lachlan Diven (54) and Samuel Willis (30) to get the home side to 6-231.

Craig Pilbin – 108 (79)

Round 7, Helensvale v Surfers Paradise – Premier Second Grade

Chasing 232 for victory, Helensvale need a strong start, they got the strong performance from Pilbin but evidently fell just 11 runs short of victory. Pilbin and Michael Taylor (31) put on 147 for the second wicket.

Dyson Sawford-Smith – 63 (62)

Round 6, Bonogin Valley v Helensvale Gold – Premier Third Grade

Chasing only 124 for victory, Sawford-Smith came in at number three and played a vital innings which helped get his side over the line. Bonogin Valley looked in trouble at 3-22 before Sawford-Smith took it to the bowlers.

Ben Fleming – 82* (62)

Round 6, Alberton v Helensvale Green – Premier Third Grade

Alberton captain Ben Fleming came in at 1-1 chasing just 109 for victory. He put on an 80 run partnership with opener Kyle Powe (9) before finishing with a 28 run partnership with Corey Taylor (7*) to win by eight wickets

Stephen Kay-Cook – 106* (76)

Round 6, Palm Beach v Runaway Bay Colts – Premier Third Grade

Kay-Cook has struggled this year with the bat but his round 6 performance guided his side to 290 and smashed his way to a brilliant hundred. He combined with Levi Schache (41) for a 98 run third wicket partnership.

Lachlan Still – 6-20 (6.3)

Round 6, Broadbeach Robina v Coomera Hope Island – Premier Third Grade

After winning the toss and bowling first, Broadbeach needed to start well. Two wickets fell early before Still came on and ran through the middle and lower order to bowl Coomera out for just 58.

Gareth Morgan – 7-16 (6)

Round 6, Mudgeeraba v Surfers Paradise – Premier Third Grade

Morgan claimed seven wickets in 11 balls to win the match for Mudgeeraba, including six wickets in the final over, guiding his side to a four run victory. He also contributed 39 with the bat.

Jay Kangur – 112* (66)

Round 6, Helensvale Green v Queens Colts – Community Div 1

Chasing 187 for victory, Kangur came in at 1-23, with another wicket falling instantly after he arrived a the crease. With the momentum swinging the way of Queens, Kangur and David Rogers (48*) put together a partnership of 169 to get their side over the line by eight wickets.

Matt McAuley – 118 (88)

Round 6, Broadbeach Robina v Palm Beach – Community Div 1

With the score at 3-27, McAuley and Craig Sweet (57) knuckled down and put together a 155 run partnership to get their side into a very winnable position, finishing the innings at 6-226.

Josh Densley – 91 (93)

Round 6, Surfers Paradise v Coomera Hope Island – Community Div 1

Densley opened the batting and put together a brilliant 91 while combining with multiple partnerships to help Surfers Paradise to a defendable total of 6-231 from their 36 overs.

Hamish Noending – 105 (102)

Round 6, Bonogin Valley – Broadbeach Robina – Community Div 3

Noending opened the batting and took it to the bowlers while two wickets fell early on in the piece. His partnership of 101 with Harrison Eltis (31*) set up the game for Bonogin Valley who finished at 5-193.

Garth Clarke – 88 (55)

Round 6, Mudgeeraba v Coomera Hope Island – Community Div 3

Clarke opened the batting with skipper Anthony Oliver (88) and combined together with 176 for the first wicket. Clarke smashed nine 4s and six 6s in his 55-ball 88.

Anthony Oliver – 88 (53)

Round 6, Mudgeeraba v Coomera Hope Island – Community Div 3

The second half of the opening partnership for Mudgeeraba, combining with a 176 run partnership for the first wicket with Garth Clark (88). Oliver smashed ten 4s and six 6s in his 53-ball 88.
