Has the junior Gold Coast cricket competitions found the next Matthew Hayden, Andrew Symonds or Michael Kasprowicz?

It is half way through the junior season with Gold Coast’s young cricketers heading into the Christmas break with plenty of hundreds, fifties and big bags of wickets.

We have pulled through the junior competitions and picked our team’s of the first half of the year.

Open Junior Div 1

Named: Coast cricket’s one day cup best XI

It has been one of the busiest first halves of the year for Cricket Gold Coast that has finished with two powerhouse clubs locked to play in the premier first grade grand final.

The first 12 weeks of the season had some incredible knocks, great matches, awesome bowling and classic catches.

We have gone through the stats and picked our best XI for the one day format for Cricket Gold Coast Premier First Grade.

1. Jared Neuhaus – 399 runs @ 49.88 – Palm Beach

Neuhaus started the year off struggling with returns of nine and one from the opening two rounds but it was his third game of the season, up against Helensvale where he scored 86 from 89 balls that got his season. He scored five 50s from 10 innings.

2. Joshua Nelson – 317 runs @ 35.22 – Mudgeeraba Nerang

Nelson moved around the order a bit this season so far, but opened a couple of games early on in the piece, which included scoring 109 from 102 against Helensvale in round two. He has made one 50 and one hundred from nine innings.

3. Dayne Siede – 477 runs @ 68.14 – Mudgeeraba Nerang

The competition’s leading run scorer for the one day cup, Siede made it look easy from round one, scoring 77 from 74 balls. He went on to score his first hundred of the season in the round eight win over Southport. Siede hit four 50s and one hundred from 10 innings.

4. Cody Durante (c) – 466 runs @ 93.20 & 7 catches, 2 stumpings – Palm Beach

The Palm Beach captain led from the front for the first half of the season for Palm Beach, not just with the bat, but with the glove work as well. He bludgeoned Runaway Bay’s bowling line up in round nine, scoring 122 not out from 95 balls. Durante score four 50s and one hundred from nine innings.

5. Jack Lickiss – 398 runs @ 56.86 – Helensvale

Helensvale’s highest run scorer in the one day format, Jack Lickiss dominated the start of the season with four 50s from six innings which included a 79 not out from 99 balls, his highest in the one day competition. He finished the one day format off with five 50s from nine innings.

6. Max Houlahan – 330 runs @ 55.00 – Queens

Queens leading run scorer started off the year with two not so convincing starts before a match winning 121 from 76 balls against Palm Beach in round three. From there he has continued to have a few starts and looked comfortable at times. From 10 innings he hit one hundred and one 50.

7. Reece Neyland – 329 runs @ 54.83 – Alberton Ormeau

Alberton’s most inform man, Neyland has had a very consistent one day campaign, having only once scored lower than 20 this season, which has included a highest score of 72 not out off 66 balls against Runaway Bay. He has score two 50s from eight innings.

8. Connor Blakely – 21 wickets @ 9.71 – Burleigh

Sitting as Burleigh’s leading wicket taker and just two wickets behind fellow left arm spinner from Surfers Paradise, Blakely played two games left than Charlton which could very easily have put him as the competitions leading wicket taker. Blakely’s best figures were 5-34 against Palm Beach.

9. Harrison Winton – 20 wickets @ 14.35 – Queens

Another left arm spinner, Winton is Queens leading wicket taker for the one day format this season. A very consistent year that had him wicketless just once from nine innings with best return of 4-39 against Mudgeeraba Nerang.

10. Finn Lonnberg – 20 wickets @ 10.65 – Palm Beach Currumbin

PBC’s opening bowler is their leading wicket taker and just three wickets behind Charlton with one less game under his belt. He will be looking to bounce back against Mudgeeraba in the one day cup final after they took to him in round seven. His best figures this season were 5-33 against Helensvale.

11. Jack Charlton – 23 wickets @ 10.78 – Surfers Paradise

The left arm spinner is the leading wicket taker for the one day format this season, ripping through batting line ups. A very consistent bowler, he has taken three or more wickets on five occasions with his best figures of 4-20 against Burleigh.

Premier Second Grade:

1. Harry Maher – 391 runs @ 43.44 – Mudgeeraba Nerang

2. Riley Coulson – 278 runs @ 30.89 – Palm Beach

3. Lachlan Diven – 266 runs @ 33.25 – Surfers Paradise

4. Lachlan Green – 267 runs @ 29.67 – Palm Beach

5. Michael Taylor – 331 runs @ 47.29 – Helensvale

6. Francis Selzer – 246 runs @ 27.33 – Alberton

7. Adem Rogers – 169 runs @ 169.00 & 4 catches, 3 stumpings – Mudgeeraba
