MIDFIELD

W: Zackary Derksen (Wilston Grange) — 4 goals, 16 disposals, 43.80% efficiency, 2 clearances, 4 F50 marks, 1 tackle, 5 inside 50s

INTERCHANGE

FWD: Patrick McCarthy (Aspley) — 3 goals, 17 disposals, 82.40% efficiency, 1 clearance, 5 F50 marks, 5 hit-outs, 3 inside 50s

Unlucky not to feature with his Aspley teammates in the starting side, but was every bit as clinical. Patrick McCarthy’s three goals and strength under the ball in the forward 50 sent a message to the rest of the competition that they would mean business come finals.

Tom Templeton.

FP: Sam Jasper (Broadbeach) — 5 goals, 10 disposals, 80% efficiency, 4 F50, 6 tackles, 1 inside 50

FOLLOWERS

RUCK: William Bella (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 1 goal, 51 hitouts, 24 disposals, 70.80% efficiency, 6 clearances, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50s

A young gun the Gold Coast Suns have already identified as a potential future prospect, William Bella has seemingly played everywhere. Moved into the ruck last weekend, the Mackay product topped the competition for hitouts as the only man to hit the half century mark, but that was just his start. To still finish with 24 disposals while constantly probing inside 50 was a credit to his efforts, and he thoroughly deserved his goal.

RROV: Brock Aston (Redland-Victoria Point) — 1 goal, 42 disposals, 69% efficiency, 11 clearances, 1 F50 mark, 8 tackles, 13 inside 50s

ROV: Thomas Thynne (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 39 disposals, 79.50% efficiency, 8 clearances, 4 tackles, 9 inside 50s

When it came to disposals and inside 50s, Thomas Thynne was only bettered by Aston. Even in a losing cause he was a constant threat, always on the ball ready to give his men up front the chance to strike.

MIDFIELD

W: Zachary Derksen (Wilston Grange) — 4 goals, 10 disposals, 70% efficiency, 4 F50 marks, 5 hitouts, 4 tackles, 1 inside 50

C: Caleb Franks (Redland-Victoria Point) — 3 goals, 37 disposals, 81.10% efficiency, 9 clearances, 3 F50 marks, 3 tackles, 7 tackles

Someone just try to keep this man out of these line ups. Caleb Franks was once again hugely instrumental for his side, with his 37 disposals were beaten only by two men, but to throw in three goals and nine clearances his full range of abilities were on show. His seven tackles proved it is his off the ball efforts that are every bit as clinical as his movements with the Sherrin.

BACKLINE

HB: Jackson Bury (Maroochydore) — 36 disposals, 75% efficiency, 1 tackle, 4 inside 50s

A huge amount of touches for a man named on the halfback flank. Jackson Bury’s go forward was enormous for the Swans, and his teammates further up the field benefited greatly.

CHB: Aiden Fyfe (Labrador) — 1 goal, 27 disposals, 81.50% efficiency, 1 clearance, 8 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Listed at halfback, but based on how prolific his stats were we’ve moved him to the middle. Aiden Fyfe needed to put in a palpable effort against Palm Beach Currumbin, particularly when they hit the lead at halftime by seven points. Labrador needed the men at the back to stand up, and Fyfe did so brilliantly to finish with 27 disposals and a goal for his troubles.

HB: Bradley Lynch (Broadbeach) — 2 goals, 11 disposals, 90.90% efficiency, 2 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50

FB: Lachlan Flagg (Noosa) — 22 disposals, 81.80% efficiency, 5 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Wilston Grange had their chances to bring the scores far closer than how they ended, but Noosa’s Lachlan Flagg wasn’t having a bar of it. Stood tall in the back pocket for 22 disposals and worked tirelessly to end with five tackles.

BP: Matthew Hambleton (Redland-Victoria Point) — 15 disposals, 86.70% efficiency, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Nothing overly fancy, rather exactly what his team needed. Matthew Hambleton was clean with most of his 15 disposals and his presence at the back never really gave Mt Gravatt the chance to mount a counter attack.

INTERCHANGE

FWD: Aaron Wilson (Noosa) — 4 goals, 13 disposals, 46.20% efficiency, 3 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

MID: Matt Doran (Surfers Paradise) — 32 disposals, 71.90% efficiency, 14 clearances, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Desperately unlucky not to crack the starting team, but for topping the round in clearances there was always going to be a place for Matt Doran. Throw in 32 disposals and the Demon could walk off the field knowing he had done his job and then some.

Matt Doran Labrador. Picture Mike Batterham

QAFL Round 19 Team of the Week: One team stands above

Broadbeach’s late season addition in Bradley Lynch has been on a goal scoring spree, and another five on the weekend in the Cats’ 39-point win over Maroochydore continued that rich vein of form. FF: Connor Stackelberg (Aspley) — 5 goals, 14 disposals, 71.40% efficiency, 5 contested marks, 6 F50 marks, 2 inside 50s

FP: Harry Law (Labrador) — 4 goals, 17 disposals, 70.60% efficiency, 4 contested marks, 9 F50 marks, 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s

Was listed at full forward, however we have shifted wide to also accommodate for Stackelberg. Harry Law was part of a dominant Labrador forward line and his four goals were a testament to that. With nine marks inside the forward 50, no other man in the round was able to get near him for the aerial threat of the week.

HF: Thomas Reeves (Labrador) — 5 goals, 25 disposals, 92% efficiency, 1 clearance, 13 marks, 4 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Was listed on the half-forward flank but moved around to contribute emphatically. Hard to pick out one star in Labrador’s huge 130-point demolition of Morningside, but Thomas Reeves was certainly up there. It was not just his five goals that caught the eye, but to finish with 25 disposals at such high efficiency simply highlighted his versatility across the forward line.

CHF: Luke Coombes (Labrador) — 4 goals, 20 disposals, 75% efficiency, 5 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Another standout from Labrador’s huge victory. Luke Coombes laid on chances for his teammates while helping himself to four maximums of his own as his side ran rampant.

HF: Nick Kempe (Labrador) — 2 goals, 20 disposals, 75% efficiency, 5 inside 50s

Named in the forward pocket but shifted back to make room. Nick Kempe continued Labrador’s emphatic display with a pair of goals while also contributing 20 disposals in a strong effort. His five inside 50s went a long way to laying the foundation for his fellow men up front to strike.

CHB: Matt Eagles (Wilston Grange) — 3 goals, 20 disposals, 60% efficiency, 5 contested marks, 3 F50 marks, 9 hit-outs, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s

Matt Eagles was listed at centre halfback on the teamsheet, however based on his figures clearly could not be contained to one spot. Ventured forward to kick three goals and his nine hit-outs also led to chances up front for his forward line. Awesome across the ground effort.

HB: Daniel Bowles (Wilston Grange) — 2 goals, 38 disposals, 84.20% efficiency, 1 clearance, 1 F50 mark, 6 inside 50s

Daniel Bowles joined his teammate in Eagles where despite being named in the halfback line found ways to venture forward and make an impact. BP: Jackson Hille (Morningside) — 1 goal, 31 disposals, 83.90% efficiency, 1 clearance, 5 tackles, 2 inside 50s

While he was listed at halfback, the goal scoring exploits of the men who took those positions have forced us to shuffle Jackson Hille to the back pocket. Had to fit him in for how valiantly he fought in a side that got torn apart by Labrador, with his 31 disposals at an impressive efficiency fending off some of the carnage. Moved up for a well earned goal.

FB: Daniel Lanthois (Wilston Grange) — 1 goal, 20 disposals, 80% efficiency, 3 F50 marks, 6 tackles, 6 inside 50s

Was listed in the backline, however was roamed up and down the ground to cause chaos. Daniel Lanthois was listed in the back pocket, and last week at halfback, but to accommodate for his performance and that of otherswe have taken advantage of that versatility and shifted him to the middle. Was a tackling machine and probed forward frequently to attack and kick a goal himself.

BP: Jackson Fisher (Broadbeach) — 2 goals, 30 disposals, 56.70% efficiency, 4 clearances, 2 F50 marks, 4 tackles, 4 inside 50s

INTERCHANGE

DEF: Aiden Fyfe (Labrador) — 33 disposals, 93.90% efficiency, 15 marks, 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s

FWD: Pat McCarthy (Aspley) — 4 goals, 15 disposals, 66.70% efficiency, 2 clearances, 3 F50 marks, 2 inside 50s

A well rounded display from Pat McCarthy, whose four goals ended up being crucial for Aspley in their tense win. Unlucky to miss out on a starting spot in this week’s side.

QAFL Round 18 Team of the Week: Goals galore across park

It was a goal scoring spree for some across the QAFL’s 18th round, with one man in particular stealing the show.

FORWARDS

FP: Jye Lockett (Broadbeach) — 4 goals, 7 disposals, 61.50% efficiency, 6 F50 marks, 1 inside 50

FF: Josh Coombes (Sherwood) — 5 goals, 8 disposals, 75% efficiency, 1 clearance, 4 F50 marks, 1 hit out

Josh Coombes selection is for a simple reason — he was clinical in front of the sticks. Kicking five goals is impressive in any arena, so to do so in a relatively low scoring and tight affair perhaps makes the achievement all the more impressive.

FP: Nicholas Dodge (Aspley) — 5 goals, 13 disposals, 76.90% efficiency, 4 inside 50s, 3 F50 marks

A constant threat in a side who went close to racking up a cricket score. Nicholas Dodge’s five goals were brilliant, but away from those milestones he looked busy to create chances around the pocket.

HF: Sean Ryan (Sherwood) — 3 goals, 18 disposals, 72.20% efficiency, 2 clearances, 2 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Looked dangerous with nearly every touch and was well rewarded with three goals. The way in which Sean Ryan got involved around the F50 helped pave the way for Sherwood’s win.

CHF: Connor Stackelberg (Aspley) — 9 goals, 20 disposals, 65% efficiency, 14 F50 marks

Just too good in front of goal. Connor Stackelberg topped the round for goals kicked with his personal haul of nine, while a whopping 14 F50 marks epitomised his dominance up front. Was not content with stealing the show as a solo act, contributing 20 disposals.

HF: Cameron O’Leary (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 3 goals, 13 disposals, 53.30% efficiency, 3 F50 marks, 1 tackle, 1 inside 50

While he would have liked to be more effective with his disposals, Cameron O’Leary’s three goals ultimately proved the difference in a hard fought six point triumph over Noosa.

Finished equal top of the round for disposals (tied with Brock Aston) however was more effective with those touches. Jay Foon dominated the middle of the field to thrust Labrador forward and help claim a strong win over Redland-Victoria Point.

W: Bryce Retzlaff (Labrador) — 1 goal, 33 disposals, 66.70% efficiency, 4 clearances, 1 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 5 inside 50s

Where Foon enjoyed somewhat of a midfield battle with Aston, Bryce Retzlaff was the point of difference out wide to prove too much for their rivals. Surpassed 30 disposals on the flank while pushing forward enough to kick a goal and probe inside the forward 50. Class.

FOLLOWER

RUCK: Will Wolbers (Aspley) — 55 hit-outs, 15 disposals, 66.70% efficiency, 7 clearances, 5 inside 50s

Will Wolbers was a country mile ahead of the next best in the round for hit-outs (Jarrod Huddy with 46), and that dominance in the circle enabled Aspley to mount their attacking raids.

ROV: Ashton Crossley (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 1 goal, 32 disposals, 87.50% efficiency, 9 clearances, 5 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Covered the ground with ease and was clinical with each touch. Ashton Crossley’s clearance numbers were particularly impressive, and his goal was a just reward for a tireless display.

RROV: Will Fletcher (Sherwood) — 2 goals, 33 disposals, 84.80% efficiency, 6 clearances, 2 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 7 inside 50s

Will Fletcher thoroughly deserved his two goals. Really you could argue he deserved more. Covered the ground brilliantly to notch 33 largely effective disposals, while his ability to push forward kept Sherwood on the front foot.

BACKLINE

HB: Brady Allen (Sherwood) — 31 disposals, 90.30% efficiency, 10 marks, 1 tackle, 1 inside 50

What an effort down the back. Brady Allen’s impressive disposal numbers was one thing, but to stand tall for 10 marks when the pressure was on kept Sherwood in front.

CHB: Riley Winter (Broadbeach) — 1 goal, 14 disposals, 85.70% efficiency, 2 clearances, 14 hit-outs, 1 tackle, 5 inside 50s

Made his touches count in a side that was rarely troubled by Surfers Paradise and maintained their unbeaten run. Riley Winter even pushed forward to claim a goal and never really gave his opposition the chance to counter.

HB: Jackson Bury (Maroochydore) — 32 disposals, 78.10% efficiency, 2 clearances, 1 tackle

Had a heap of traffic directed down his corridor in a well beaten side, but Jackson Bury still held his own. Was effective with his 32 disposals and gave his side the chance to fight fire with fire.

BP: Jasper Craven (Aspley) — 21 disposals, 71.40% efficiency, 1 clearance, 1 tackle

In a position hard to truly stand out in, Jasper Craven made his presence felt by topping 20 disposals. In a side who cruised to a big win, defence was going to be a challenging role to be noticed in but Craven found a way.

FB: Lachlan Henderson (Labrador) — 25 disposals, 76% efficiency, 12 marks

Nothing overly flashy out of this performance, but a strong and consistent effort that kept their rivals at bay. Lachlan Henderson was a constant frustration for Redland-Victoria Point, diffusing raid after raid to perhaps make Labrador’s eventual win look a little more flattering that perhaps what the contest suggested.

BP: Thomas Thynne (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 29 disposals, 82.80% efficiency, 2 clearances, 2 tackles, 5 inside 50s

Was named at halfback but we’ve moved him back to accommodate him in the team. Thomas Thynne was clinical with his disposals and pushed forward to put his side on the attack frequently.

INTERCHANGE

FWD: Bradley Lynch (Broadbeach) – 3 goals, 15 disposals, 93.30% efficiency, 1 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Extremely unlucky to miss out on the starting side for his performance, such was the strength of the forward line contenders this week. Bradley Lynch’s three goals were well deserved, but it was just how accurate he was with his disposals that stood out the most.

FOL: Caleb Franks (Redland-Victoria Point) — 1 goal, 31 disposals, 80.60% efficiency, 12 clearances, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s

Forever in contention for selection in these teams, Caleb Franks fought bravely in a well beaten side. Topped the round for clearances and helped himself to a goal as well.

MID: Wilson Barry (Morningside): 28 disposals, 75% efficiency, 10 clearances, 10 tackles, 4 inside 50s

Even in a well beaten side, Wilson Barry fought valiantly. Finished among the leaders of the round for clearances and was one of only two players to hit double figures in tackles with 10 (behind Hugh Fidler with 11).

DEF: William Peppin (Aspley) — 1 goal, 12 disposals, 75% efficiency, 2 clearances, 2 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Pushed forward to kick a goal and probe inside 50, as Aspley charged on to the win. William Peppin did what he needed to in defence and deserved the chance to move up for his maximum.

QAFL ROUND 17 TEAM OF THE WEEK: PERFORMANCE OF 2022 CONTENDERS?

Two players put forward their nominations for individual performance of the season, as another man’s recent goal scoring form continues to catch the eye. QAFL Round 17 Team of the Week here.

FORWARDS

FP: Connor Stackelberg (Aspley) — 4 goals, 10 disposals, 4 F50 marks

Stepped up when he needed to kick four goals and keep Labrador at arms reach.

FF: Aaron Wilson (Noosa) — 5 goals, 19 disposals, 5 F50 marks, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Aaron Wilson is on the charge in the forward pocket, maintaining his strong form in front of the sticks to kick five goals.

FP: Keegan Downie (Morningside) — 6 goals, 13 disposals, 6 F50 marks

Listed at full-forward but have shifted wider to accommodate for Wilson’s inclusion. Keegan Downie’s six goal haul was valiant in a losing cause, as his presence in the forward 50 was a constant threat to Wilston Grange’s cause.

HF: Cameron O’Leary (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 3 goals, 16 disposals, 87.50% efficiency, 4 F50 marks, 5 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Fought hard for his three goals and his accuracy off the boot presented further chances for his teammates. A clean performance from Cameron O’Leary.

CHF: Johnathan Freeman (Noosa) — 7 goals, 17 disposals, 8 F50 marks, 16 hit-outs, 3 tackles

The round’s leading goal kicker with seven and a constant menace in the forward line. Johnathan Freeman’s clean hands in the forward 50 set up the demolition of Surfers Paradise.

HF: Max Hewitt (Wilston Grange) — 3 goals, 18 disposals, 83.30% efficiency, 3 F50 marks, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50s

Proved crucial in Wilston Grange’s comeback victory over Morningside. Max Hewitt’s three goals helped push his side over the line after trailing by four goals at quarter time, and still down by seven points heading into the final term.

FOLLOWERS

RUCK: Will Wolbers (Aspley) — 1 goal, 18 disposals, 83.30% efficiency, 35 hit-outs, 6 clearances, 1 F50 mark, 1 inside 50

He was beaten by one other man in terms of hit-outs for the round, but Will Wolbers goal and clean disposals earns him the rucking duties this week.

ROV: Wylie Buzza (Mt Gravatt) — 3 goals, 27 disposals, 85.20% efficiency, 6 clearances, 3 F50 marks, 28 hit-outs

Was on the team sheet as coming off the bench, and while typically a forward in his rise to nine AFL appearances for Geelong, we have thrown Wylie Buzza into the followers. Pushed forward to kick three goals, but it was between his dominant hit-outs and highly effective 27 disposals that paved the way for Mt Gravatt’s win.

RROV: Connor McDonald (Noosa) — 37 disposals, 91.90% efficiency, 13 clearances, 32 hit-outs, 10 inside 50s, 9 tackles

For such a powerful performance Connor McDonald really deserved a goal for his troubles. While it was not to be, his extremely effective 37 disposals had Noosa on the front foot frequently. Led the round for clearances and inside 50s (tied with Zac Stone) and second for tackles (tied with Toby Triffet).

MIDFIELD

W: Bruce Reville (Sherwood) — 3 goals, 30 disposals, 7 clearances, 8 inside 50s, 4 tackle

While his side suffered a 32-point defeat, that perhaps could make Bruce Reville’s effort all the more impressive. Was a threat in the forward 50, and he made it count with three goals, and he frequently provided chances for Sherwood to bounce back.

C: Tyler Cornish (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 3 goals, 40 disposals, 77.50% efficiency, 9 clearances, 7 tackles, 6 inside 50s

What an absolute clinic. Tyler Cornish’s three goals were just the tip of the iceberg. The PBC star led the league in disposals for Round 17, and still managed to maintain high efficiency. His nine clearances enabled his side to Counter-attack frequently, and he still had the air in the tank to churn out seven tackles. Surely up there for one of the best individual performances of the season.

W: Charlton Offermans (Labrador) — 2 goals, 27 disposals, 9 clearances, 3 F50 marks, 8 inside 50s

While typically listed among the forward line, we’ve listed Charlton Offermans in the midfield given his huge involved for Labrador. Even in a losing cause, Offermans was among the round leaders for clearances, and his 27 disposals spoke to his willingness to hunt for possession. Two goals were a just reward.

BACKLINE

HB: Daniel Bowles (Wilston Grange) — 1 goal, 21 disposals, 81% efficiency, 3 inside 50s, 2 tackles

Pushed forward to help himself to a goal, but it was the clean disposing Daniel Bowes brought to the game that earns a starting spot.

CHB: Zac Westerberg (Wilston Grange) — 1 goal, 15 disposals, 73.30% efficiency, 21 hit-outs, 3 inside 50s, 3 tackles, 2 clearances

Ventured into midfield to become a prominent force for hit-outs, while his go forward earned him a goal. Zac Westerberg made his touches count.

HB: Liam Jones (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 25 disposals, 76% efficiency, 8 contested marks, 2 inside 50s

Led the round for contested marks and was effective with his disposals. Another composed display at the back from Liam Jones.

BP: Thomas Reeves (Labrador) — 1 goal, 27 disposals, 85.20% efficiency, 4 inside 50s

He was listed at halfback, but to find a place for him and others we have moved Thomas Reeves to the back pocket. Pushed forward to help himself to a goal, but his effective and clinical disposals helped narrow the scores after Aspley blew them away in the opening quarter.

FB: Max Nelson (Morningside) — 32 disposals, 78.10% efficiency, 2 inside 50s

Worked hard even in a losing side. Max Nelson was among his side’s best with 32 disposals, probing forward enough to register a pair of inside 50s as well.

BP: Daniel Joseph (Aspley) — 21 disposals, 85.70% efficiency, 4 inside 50s, 1 clearance

Daniel Joseph was safe and clean at the back to counter any raid against Aspley, while he probed up to create forward 50 chances too.

INTERCHANGE

MID: Ashton Crossley (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 1 goal, 36 disposals, 86.10% efficiency, 12 clearances, 4 tackles, 5 inside 50s

On any other week Ashton Crossley would have earned himself starting options at centre for his weekend efforts. Only the unreal feats of Tyler Cornish have kept him on the bench this time, but the PBC gun’s performance was still among the best in the round.

MID/FOL: Aaron Laskey (Noosa) — 1 goal, 30 disposals, 80% efficiency, 5 clearances, 7 tackles, 7 inside 50s

Strong across the ground in a commanding display among a side who dominated from the get go. Aaron Laskey’s goal was well earned on the back of 30 highly effective disposals.

FWD: Luke O’Sullivan (Mt Gravatt) — 2 goals, 34 disposals, 5 clearances, 4 inside 50s

Johnathan Freeman’s seven goal haul kept Luke O’Sullivan out of the run-on centre half-forward spot, however his performance for Mt Gravatt was still eye catching and crucial to their win.

DEF/FOL: William Bella (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 47 hit-outs, 21 disposals, 5 clearances, 5 tackles, 5 inside 50s

He topped the round for hit-outs despite typically playing in the backline and impressed in a commanding win. William Bella was only edged out for the starting job by Wolbers due to his efficiency of his disposals, but the Suns Academy prospect has signalled he is a diverse weapon for the PBC line up.

QAFL Team of the Week Round 16: Midfield clinics on show

In a round which featured some of the tensest contests of the 2022 QAFL season, those who ran amok in the midfield proved their worth. But who impressed enough to crack the Round 16 team of the week?

FORWARD LINE

FP: Matthew Hammelmann (Redland-Victoria Point) — 5 goals, 9 disposals

The big man from Redland-Victoria Point just keeps doing what he does best. Despite his side going down in a narrow top of the table clash with Broadbeach, Matthew Hammelmann kept up his goal scoring spree with another five to keep the contest alive to the death.

FF: Connor Stackelberg (Aspley) — 7 goals, 19 disposals, 12 F50 marks, 2 inside 50s

Simply clinical in front of the sticks. Connor Stackelberg was one of two men to kick seven goals, while his strength under the ball within attacking territory set up a commanding win.

FP: Aaron Wilson (Noosa) — 7 goals, 16 disposals, 75% efficiency, 9 F50 marks, 1 inside 50

The star of the show in a draw contest. Aaron Wilson’s seven goals and clean hands in the forward 50 kept the clash on a knife’s edge against Maroochydore in one of the games of the season.

HF: Jye Lockett (Broadbeach) — 4 goals, 15 disposals, 73.30% efficiency, 4 F50 marks, 1 inside 50

Listed at full-forward but moved back to accommodate. Jye Lockett was equally effective in front of the sticks as he was laying on chances for his teammates in an enthralling match.

CHF: Ashton Crossley (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 3 goals, 36 disposals, 83.30% efficiency, 4 F50 marks, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Clinical. Not much more needs to be said about Ashton Crossley’s performance. His three goals were the least he could be rewarded with for the way in which he scoped the field, finishing among the round’s leaders for disposals at a brilliant efficiency.

HF: Josh Coombes (Sherwood) — 5 goals, 7 disposals, 71.40% efficiency, 2 F50 marks, 1 inside 50

Listed closer to the sticks, but with five goals to his name Josh Coombes had to feature. Kept Sherwood on the front foot against Morningside in a clean display.

FOLLOWERS

RUCK: Brad Hodge (Morningside) — 32 hit-outs, 10 disposals, 100% efficiency, 4 inside 50s, 3 tackles, 1 clearance, 1 goal

Made more hit-outs than any man in Round 16, but it was just how clean Brad Hodge was with each disposal that thrust him into the team of the week. Every touch found its target, and he thoroughly deserved his goal for the trouble.

ROV: Ryan Banks-Smith (Aspley) — 33 disposals, 81.80% efficiency, 10 inside 50s, 5 clearances, 1 goal

Constantly probing inside 50 to be among the leaders in the round, and the way in which he covered the ground made Ryan Banks-Smith an easy inclusion in the line up.

RROV: Zac Harrison (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 33 disposals, 87.60% efficiency, 4 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 2 goals

At times Zac Harrison seemed to be everywhere for the PBC outfit, and the fact he was so efficient with every disposal paved the way for a strong win. Well deserved pair of goals.

MIDFIELD

W: Sam Jasper (Broadbeach) — 4 goals, 15 disposals, 73.30% efficiency, 4 F50 marks, 1 inside 50s

Patrolled the Broadbeach midfield brilliantly in a tense match, moving upfront at will to kick four goals of his own. A powerful effort from Sam Jasper.

CEN: Matthew Payne (Wilston Grage) — 41 disposals, 75.60% efficiency, 8 clearances, 5 tackles, 5 inside 50s, 2 goals

Made more disposals than any player in the round, and despite his side going down Matthew Payne refused to relent. Well rewarded with two goals, and his clearances at least gave his side a chance to strike to throughout the contest.

W: Corey Joyce (Palm Beach Currumbin — listed bench) — 33 disposals, 84.80% efficiency, 7 inside 50s, 4 tackles, 4 clearances, 1 goal

Was named initially on the bench but Corey Joyce came on with a vengeance to help inspire a PBC triumph. Clinical with his disposals, constantly forced the ball down to his own attacking end and kicked a goal to boot.

BACKLINE

BP: Jarrod Harbrow (Broadbeach) — 19 disposals, 84.20% efficiency, 1 inside 50

Listed at halfback, but to accommodate others we have moved Jarrod Harbrow to the back pocket. The former Sun showed his class at the back to keep Redland-Victoria Point at bay long enough to ensure Broadbeach maintained their unbeaten run.

FB: William Pendlebury (Morningside) — 21 disposals, 85.70% efficiency, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50

Even in a losing cause, William Pendlebury stood up. In the face of relentless attack he kept turning up, and his effective disposals at least gave his side the chance to counter attack.

BP: Callum Searle (Broadbeach) — 28 disposals, 75% efficiency, 5 clearances, 8 inside 50s

Ventured forward to keep Broadbeach on the front foot, while his wealth of touches had the Cats always looking likely on the counter. A strong effort from Callum Searle.

HB: Jackson Bury (Maroochydore) — 26 disposals, 73.10% efficiency, 3 clearances, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50s

In what was ultimately a drawn contest, Jackson Bury was forced to work overtime to keep the clash alive for Maroochydore. He did so with aplomb.

CHB: Liam Jones (Palm Beach Currumbin) — 29 disposals, 82.80% efficiency, 5 inside 50s, 1 goal

Liam Jones’ accuracy from the back guided PBC up the field in their dominant display, with a goal of his own a just reward for his efforts.

HB: Lachlan Henderson (Labrador) — 31 disposals, 87.10% efficiency, 4 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 goal

Labrador were strong for start to finish against a valiant Wilston Grange, and much of that came on Lachlan Henderson’s back. Whenever his rivals threatened to venture forward he was there to snuff the raid out, and even pushed up field to help himself to a goal.

INTERCHANGE

MID: Caleb Franks (Redland-Victoria Point) — 31 disposals, 83.90% efficiency, 7 clearances, 5 tackles, 3 inside 50s

Caused plenty of headaches for Broadbeach as he constantly pushed forward to create chances. Even in a losing cause it was a valiant display from Caleb Franks.

MID: William Johnson (Redland-Victoria Point) — 30 disposals, 73.30% efficiency, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 1 goal

Unlucky not to make the starting side. William Johnson, much the same as Franks, constantly was giving his side chances to strike. But for some more accurate kicking in front of the posts and his efforts would have been enough to cause a boilover.

DEF: O’Neill Moncrief (Morningside) — 35 disposals, 77.10% efficiency, 11 tackles, 9 clearances

While typically named among the followers, we have selected the round’s tackle fiend O’Neill Moncrief as a defender reserve. To finish with the third most disposals of all players across the weekend while topping the tackle count speaks volumes to how committed he was even in what turned out to be a losing cause.

FWD: Lochie Laing (Noosa) — 4 goals, 12 disposals, 4 F50 marks, 1 inside 50

Unlucky not to crack the starting side, such was the strength of the forwards this week. However make no mistake, Lochie Laing was up for a fight in the draw with Maroochydore, and his four goals were largely responsible for keeping them in the contest.

FB: Alex Jacobs (Maroochydore) — 23 disposals, 82.60% efficiency, 3 clearances, 3 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 goal

Alex Jacobs ability to amass the disposals he did as effectively as he did went a long way to Maroochydore stealing a three point win over Wilston Grange. Even as the points flowed he stayed in the fight, and even ventured forward to help himself to a goal.

BP: Matthew Hambleton (Redland-Victoria Point) — 20 disposals, 95% efficiency, 2 inside 50s, 2 tackles, 1 clearance
