DEFENCE
BP: Scott Miller (Redland-Victoria Point)
24 Disposals, 71% efficiency, 5 clearances, 6 marks, 2 tackles
Note: Miller amassed 24 touches down back for the Sharks and was a key exit man against the reigning premiers.
FB: James Gledhill (Broadbeach)
6 Disposals, 5 marks
Note: Matt Hammelmann had 17 goals in two games prior to matching up on Gledhill – the Sharks’ tall target managed just two against the Cats. Broadbeach rated Gledhill’s performance its best of the weekend and so do we.
BP: Jarrod Harbrow (Broadbeach)
23 Disposals, 70% efficiency, 8 marks (2 intercept), 1 inside 50
Note: Harbrow’s first game for the Cats went about as well as expected. His speed was a feature on defensive 50 exit.
HB: Jackson Hille (Morningside)
31 Disposals (10 cont.), 77% efficiency, 7 marks, 2 inside 50s
Note: A starring role for the Panthers from Hille, who accumulated down back and helped drive the 2020 premiers forward.
CHB: Liam Jones (Palm Beach Currumbin)
23 Disposals, 87% efficiency, 7 intercept marks, 2 goals, 2 inside 50s
Note: Jones and Labrador’s Lachie Henderson both led the league with seven intercept marks in Round 4, as would be expected given their ilk. Jones starts at CHB courtesy of his two goals.
HB: Daniel Bowles (Wilston Grange)
34 Disposals (9 cont.), 82% efficiency, 7 inside 50s
Note: Massive game from Bowles, who had the fourth-most inside 50s in the competition running off halfback.
MIDFIELD
WING: Todd Carbone (Mt Gravatt)
36 Disposals, 89% efficiency, 8 clearances, 10 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s, 1 goal
Note: The Vultures winger can hold his head high despite the heavy loss to Palm Beach Currumbin, because he did just about all he could. Carbone had just two ineffective disposals for the match, played a pivotal linking role and even hit the scoreboard.
CENTRE: Andrew Boston (Labrador)
31 Disposals, 2 goals, 6 clearances, 4 inside 50s
Note: Boston did his usual racking up the disposals in Round 4 but it was his ability to go forward and impact the scoreboard that gets him in the TOTW.
WING: Jordan Hayden (Aspley)
32 Disposals, 97% efficiency, 10 inside 50s, 7 marks, 6 clearances, 6 tackles
Note: Hayden had a near-flawless game for the Hornets, with zero turnovers on 32 touches and a league-leading 10 inside 50s.
FORWARD
HF: Cameron O’Leary (Palm Beach Currumbin)
27 Disposals, 4 goals, 7 tackles, 4 inside 50s
Note: A breakout performance from the Lions’ recruit, who played a complete high half-forward role in the big win over Mt Gravatt. One of the standout performances from Round 4, certainly.
CHF: Connor Stackelberg (Aspley)
18 disposals, 6 goals, 10 marks inside 50
Note: Stackelberg finally got off the leash in Round 4, booting a league-best six goals in the Hornets’ smashing of Sherwood. Ten marks inside 50 tells the tale of a complete key forward performance.
HF: Ryan Banks-Smith (Aspley)
33 Disposals, 2 goals, 10 marks, 9 inside 50s
Note: Banks-Smith was everywhere for the Hornets on Saturday, amassing over 30 touches and playing key distributor with nine inside 50s. The two goals were a cherry on top to lock him in at half-forward this week.
FP: Macauley Lonergan (Aspley)
15 disposals, 4 goals, 3 marks inside 50
Note: When Stackelberg wasn’t kicking them from everywhere it was Lonergan in the pocket doing the damage. His 4.1 was the third-best output of any player across Round 4.
FF: Alex Mitchell (Surfers Paradise)
7 Disposals, 3 goals
Note: Mitchell and Tigers talisman Bryce Retzlaff both bagged three goals but the Demons man got more of the footy, so he takes the full forward spot this week.
FP: Sterling Mitchell (Sherwood)
12 Disposals, 3 goals
Note: Mitchell came off the bench and kicked three of the Magpies’ four goals in their loss to Aspley. A handy day out considering the Hornets’ dominance across the park.
FOLLOWERS
RUCK: Craig Malone (Mt Gravatt)
13 Disposals, 57 hit-outs (21adv), 5 clearances
Note: Malone had 26 more hit-outs than the next-best ruckman in Round 4, and 13 more to advantage. An easy choice for the tap work this week.
ROV: Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Labrador)
40 Disposals, 23 contested possessions 12 clearances, 6 tackles, 8 inside 50s
Note: Most disposals and most contested possessions of any player in Round 4. If the ex-Brisbane Lion plays to his potential we’ll be saying the same thing most weeks this season.
RROV: Matthew Payne (Wilston Grange)
31 Disposals, 15 contested possessions, 2 goals, 3 inside 50s, 3 clearances
Note: Like a fine wine Matt Payne continues to get the job done. The three-time QAFL best and fairest winner earns his place in the team off the back of an all-round performance capped off with two crucial goals that got the Gorillas over the line.
INTERCHANGE
Tyler Cornish (Palm Beach Currumbin – MID/FWD)
20 Disposals, 3 goals, 3 clearances, 8 marks, 6 tackles
Note: The Lions’ vice-captain did it all at the coalface when the game was there to be won against Mt Gravatt, before going forward late and helping himself to a few goals for his troubles.
Lachie Henderson (Labrador – DEF/FWD)
21 Disposals, 86% efficiency, 7 intercept marks, 1 goal, 3 inside 50s
Note: We’ll be seeing the ex-Geelong star in the TOTW a lot this season. He and Liam Jones had near-identical statistical outputs in Round 4
Jackson Bury (Maroochydore - MID)
36 Disposals, 86% efficiency, 1 clearance, 4 marks, 3 inside 50s
Note: Bury led the Roos in touches in their derby win over Noosa and was incredibly efficient with his use, turning it over once from 36 disposals.
Luke Mitchell (Sherwood - DEF)
26 Disposals, 88% efficiency, 11 marks
Note: A highly efficient game from the Magpies’ half-back flanker, who was their key switch man exiting defense judging by his 11 marks.
