PALM Beach Currumbin State High has revealed its greatest Australian rules side as it launches celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the school.
The school brought together three of its most influential Australian rules figures to come up with a team stacked with the greatest talent to come through its ranks over half a century.
They were Neil Mackay, who coached the school’s senior team from 1996 to 2021, John O’Keeffe, the man who brought Australian rules to Palm Beach Currumbin and developed its excellence program, and new senior coach Jason Jeffrey.

The team features players from over four decades, shining a light on the talent that came through even before the city became home to AFL club in the Gold Coast Suns.
Among the group of 22 players are Palm Beach Currumbin Hall of Fame nominees Dayne Beams, who won a premiership with Collingwood in 2010, Jesse Joyce, who played 64 AFL games for the Gold Coast Suns, and Sam Gilbert, who played 208 AFL games for St Kilda.
Palm Beach Currumbin will host a celebration of its anniversary on March 4, with 18 people from various sports to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“Fourteen players in our Australian rules team played in the AFL and there are guys who played in the state league and VFL as well,” Mackay said.
“There are quite a few guys who played in the NEAFL who didn’t make the team.
“We are not exactly in AFL heartland, being on the southern end of the Gold Coast and new the NSW border but I think it is a great side.”
