The Croweaters won their seventh straight match and finished top with a 31-21 win over Queensland, who were battling with Western Australia to claim fourth, the last finals spot.
Queensland needed to win and have WA lose to qualify but South Australia had other ideas.
After a close contest early, with scores level at 7-7 at quarter time, the Croweaters outscored Queensland by five goals in the second and third quarter to lead by ten at the last break, which would be the final margin.
Even if Queensland won, Western Australia made sure of the semi-final spot with a 19-goal win over the ACT, 36-17.
WA goal shooter Skyla Payne scored 20 goals.
The other matches saw Victoria and New South Wales secure second and third with wins over Tasmania and the Northern Territory respectively.
In a close contest against Tasmania, Victoria won 21-16, coming back from a goal down at the final break to win by five goals.
New South Wales won by 33 goals with Matilda Percival and Sienna Liva combining for 43 goals.
Marley Dighton, who played in the final term, got 10 goals to add to the win.
In 19/U, New South Wales pipped ACT to the last finals spot, finishing in fourth.
New South Wales won 52-28 over Tasmania to move past ACT after the team lost to Victoria 28-22.
Despite 16 goals from Charlize Gabel Joseph, ACT couldn’t overcome a four goal deficit at the final break to beat the Big V.
Queensland ended its round robin campaign in first, remaining unbeaten with an 11-goal win over South Australia, 35-24.
