2025 Tasmanian Netball League live stream: Cripps v Hawks, Round 17

The Hawks and Cripps could not be split at the end of a dramatic top four clash in the Tasmanian Netball League. Watch the REPLAYS from the Round 17 double header.

The Cripps and Hawks were forced to share the points after a Tasmanian Netball League thriller on Saturday.

Cripps will be left to rue what might have been after the home side coughed up the ball on a travel violation when leading by a goal in the final minute.

The Hawks managed to turn the tide with two goals in the space of 30 seconds, before Cripps fired two brilliant passes back to goal attack Bellah Parker who made no mistake tying the scores at 45-45 as the siren sounded.

With both sides battling for a spot in the top four, a win for Cripps would’ve proved crucial to putting space between themselves and the fifth-placed Devon.

The home side had gotten out to as much as a seven-goal lead in the third term, but the three-time defending champions proved why they cannot be counted out.

Parker was the Cripps best with a match-high 33 goals, while the experienced Courtney Treloar finished with a team-high 32 for Hawks.

Northern Hawks 14-game winning streak in the Tasmanian Netball League 19-and-Under competition was brought to a screeching halt on Saturday.

The top fo the table Hawks sustained the first blemish on its stellar season, with a brilliant Cripps Waratah pulling of a five-goal boilover.

The Hawks were valiant in defeat, almost pulling off a monster fight back from an 11-goal deficit in the final quarter, but ultimately fell short in the 50-45 loss.

Cripps shocked their rivals out of the gate mounting an early three-goal lead at the first break which was never headed.

Ruby Clark played the entire match in the shooting circle, finishing with a match-high 39 goals for the home side, while on the opposite side of the ball Emily O’Connor finished with 28 for the Hawks.

PREVIEW

Hawks under-19 players Harrier Humphreys and Heidi Curtis are adamant crashing out of last year’s Tasmanian Netball League finals will be a valuable learning experience after another dominant campaign.

Having suffered just one defeat during the minor rounds last season, the Hawks went on to lose two finals and were spectators for the grand final.

Before Saturday’s road trip to third-placed Cripps Waratah, co-captain Curtis said the team was better mentally equipped to enter the finals as strong favourites.

Both Opens and U19 matches will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV.

“Last year everyone said finals is a whole new ball game and it certainly was,” she said.

“There’s all that pressure going in as a top of the table team, and that probably got to us and shook us a bit.

“This year we really understand what it’s going to feel like, it’s the mental side and know how to handle tough situations and be under pressure.”

Curtis expects Cripps Waratah to provide a strong test as the Hawks look for a 15th straight win.

The Hawks will be without twins Isabella and Sophie Sherriff, who are part of the Tasmania Wild team to compete in the Super Netball Reserves tournament from Monday.

Sophie, a goalshooter, was named joint 17 and under MVP at this year’s National Netball Championships – the first Tasmanian to win the honour.

“They’re a young team and lots of them are new to the State League, but they’re very athletic, like to have a go at the ball and they definitely push us to go hard,” Curtis said.

“That’ll test us, to just keep working the ball (down the court).

Fellow midcourter Harriet Humphreys said the longer TNL season this year will ensure they’re better prepared.

“I think we’re a lot better prepared going into the finals. We didn’t have the best finals last year but we’ve built a lot and hopefully we give it a good crack,” Humphreys said.

“The intensity completely shifts going into finals, and now we’ve had that experience we can build on it, and understand what we need to do.

“The season has been longer so we’ve had more chance to understand the other teams.”

In the opens clash, fourth-placed Cripps Waratah (7-7) will be keen to remain ahead of Devon (fifth, 6-8) in the race for the last finals spot.

This weekend the league is helping raise awareness for the Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS).

“It’s really important we have this round, it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness and provide education on what SASS does, and why it’s important for both women and men, but more importantly women in netball,” Curtis said.

This Saturday’s scheduled Kingston-Cavaliers opens game has been cancelled and deemed a draw (two points each) due to the Cavs’ large representation in the Wild squad, but the 19s will still go ahead.
