A huge individual performance from one of Oakdale’s star players put Garville’s recent Netball SA Premier League hot streak to an end on Friday night. Watch the REPLAY here.

A monster performance from Oakdale shooter Asha Thurlow powered one of the Premier League’s premiership contenders to another win in Friday’s top-four clash against Garville.

Thurlow put away 56 goals in the 60-55 win, single handily outscoring Garville, in what was both one of the games and best individual performances of the season.

The win by Oakdale also ended Garville’s five match winning streak.

It was a back-and-forth contest throughout with the two sides trading leads before finishing locked at 42-42 at the final break.

The eventual victors then broke away with an 18-13 last quarter that was highlighted by some terrific defence by Oakdale and Thurlow’s shooting.

It took Thurlow’s season tally to 315 goals from seven games with the star shooter currently sitting first in the competition.

Her closest rival is Contax’s Jordi Vidmar on 227 goals.

In the reserves clash, it was also another close contest with Garville coming away with a 54-52 win.

Red-hot Garville will put its five-game Netball SA Premier League winning streak to the test when its faces fellow in-form opponent Oakdale in one of the most exciting clashes of the 2025 season so far on Friday night.

The Greys, who have already knocked off top side Contax this year, have built impressively on their third spot finish in 2024 and have managed to record tight wins despite having to rotate the squad to compensate for unavailable names each week.

Led by consistent shooter Eliza Grenvold and acting captain Tahlia Dnistrjanski, the club tallied another hard-fought win over Tango last week but will need to find another gear against Oakdale, who are fresh off of a 55-50 win over Matrics.

“We’re pretty happy with where we’re currently at and just focusing on taking the season one week at a time because every game has been tough, which speaks to the quality of the competition,” Garville coach Kirsty Leonard-Down said.

“We’ve had to do a lot of adjusting each week with players coming in and out due to other commitments but the strength in our squad has been a positive.

“Oakdale would have to be happy with their start to the season as well and we’re definitely not taking them lightly.”

While Leonard-Down believed Oakdale had the size and talent to match it with anyone in the competition, she was confident her side would have what it takes to get the job done and record another impressive win if they stuck to their style of play.

“They’re big on both ends and quick through the middle so we know we need to be at our best,” she said.

“We know what they bring but if we worry too much about adjusting for them we won’t play how we want to play.

“Right now we want to build on our performances each week and hopefully lead ourselves to finals.

“There’s definitely a good feeling within the group at the moment. It’s not an overconfidence because we know we have to keep working but we’re feeling really good about what we’re doing.”

Oakdale meanwhile suffered its only loss of the season in round five against Contax before bouncing back well last week to defeat Matrics.

Contax, Garville and Oakdale are only split on the ladder by percentage with all three holding 5-1 records on the season.
