PBC SHS’s Zane Harrison may have captained the Queensland Schoolboys at this year’s nationals, but has revealed he is a true Blue and NSW eligible as the halfback ace gears up for today’s NRL Schoolboy Cup grand final against Patrician Brothers’ Blacktown on the Gold Coast.

Harrison grew up “30 seconds walk’’ from the Queensland border, but he is a Tweed Heads native and his loyalties are with New South Wales.

“I have always been New South Wales. I have always supported New South Wales,’’ Harrison said.

“I played for New South Wales country under-16s, I played under-17 for New South Wales and I was 18th man for the New South Wales under-19s (State of Origin) this year.’’

Harrison said while he was proud to represent his school, PBC SHS, and captain the Queensland schoolboys earlier this year, “I am New South Wales.’’

Yet he was so close to being a Queensland Maroon. “I live 30 seconds from the border. I cross it every day,’’ Harrison said.

“But I went to Tweed Heads Public School just on the border. I am a Blue.’’

Harrison missed PBC SHS win in the recent Phil Hall Cup state final because of HIA protocol, but returns for today’s after beating St Patrick’s College last season.

Harrison will be playing in his 12th school or club grand final alongside his twin brother, Isaac, who captained PBC in Zane’s absence during the state final.

Isaac, who now has 14 grand final appearances at either club or school, said while it was an honour to captain PBC in the state final win, he welcome his brother back.

“It was different circumstances for myself but it was great to lead the boys out and I’m really proud of everyone’s efforts on that day,’’ Isaac Harrison said.

The final will be played at CBUS Super Stadium, the Gold Coast.
