Replay: Stretton Secondary College v Caloundra State High School (Grand final) - 2024 Karyn Murphy Cup

Stretton State College young gun Leevi Williams has spearheaded a second-straight Karyn Murphy Cup triumph for the school, pulling the strings in a brilliant grand final performance at Cbus Super Stadium.

The flashy fullback-turned-playmaker ran roughshod over a valiant Caloundra State High side in the final, pulling apart their edge defence with her sharp footwork and blinding turn of speed.

Williams scored one of her own in the second half and set up several others as Stretton capped off a huge day of action with a 34-0 grand final shut-out.

They are called the Storm, and Stretton made sure to live up the moniker, storming out of the blocks to score three tries in four minutes in a blistering period late in the first half.

As she had done all day, exciting lock forward Fleur Ginn showed her talents to score a grand final double to go with an earlier hattrick in the round games.

Stretton State College came within a whisker of joining the inaugural Queensland Schoolgirls Cup season in 2024, and if their unstoppable performances in the Karyn Murphy Cup is anything to go by, expect them to be a force in the top competition next year.

ROUND ROBIN GAMES

Stretton State College are in line to clinch a second-straight Karyn Murphy Cup crown as they prepare for this afternoon’s grand final against Caloundra State High.

Stretton finished the finals round robin series undefeated, with impressive utility Fleur Ginn setting the tournament alight for the second straight year with a hat-trick in their win over Innisfail State College.

Ginn proved unstoppable for the Brisbane side as they blew Innisfail off the park in a 30-6 win.

It backed up Stretton’s earlier 18-6 win over Caloundra State High, in which barnstorming forward Te Rina Pearse scored a double.

Caloundra will play in the final after star fullback Aamira Renouf helped spearhead a 24-6 win over Innisfail State College in the opening match of the day’s action.

The Karyn Murphy Cup final will be played at 3pm and will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV.

Stretton State College will be sweating on the availability of star fullback and Queensland schoolgirls representative Leevi Williams ahead of the Karyn Murphy Cup finals.

The reigning Karyn Murphy Cup champions are expected to be battling for numbers ahead of the finals round robin with a scheduling clash with the school’s formal night.

Stretton will be hoping their talismanic fullback will line up for the side on finals day after she blew away the competition during their unbeaten run through the southeast Queensland finals.

A win in the Karyn Murphy Cup would cap a big year for the lightning fast fullback, who was part of the Queensland Under-16 schoolgirls side which finished runners-up to NSW Combined High Schools at the national championships in June.

Stretton will have its work cut out for it against regional qualifiers Innisfail State College, who similarly went undefeated through the North Queensland finals, and Caloundra SHS, who turned the tables on unbeaten Darling Downs rivals The Glennie School in the CQ final.

Innisfail, who went down to Stretton in last year’s state final, will look to inspirational captain and forward pack leader Jytte Wallace to lay the platform and guide the way for her side as she has done all year.

Working off the back of Wallace’s efforts are crafty playmakers Skye Barba and Jordanna Woods, who will cause havoc for opposition defenders.

Caloundra State High earned their way into the finals off the back of inspirational fullback Aamira Renouf, the niece of Broncos and Queensland great Steve Renouf.

The young fullback scored a brilliant match winner as Caloundra turned the tables on rivals The Glennie School 10-6 in the Karyn Murphy Cup CQ final.
