The NRL Schoolgirls Cup fixture between Westfields and Matraville Sports High has been cancelled after Matraville was forced to forfeit the contest. We apologise for the lack of live stream.
Westfields might be saying a few thank yous to the weather Gods ahead of this week’s NRL Schoolgirls Cup catch-up clash.
The NRL Schoolgirls Cup clash between Westfields and Matraville will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV on Tuesday.
The Westfields side will welcome back a host of star power for the contest after they had 14 players represent the school on the national stage in the past fortnight.
The Westfields side was due to be without those representative stars when the clash with Matraville Sports High was meant to be played last term, but because of the potential widespread flooding following NSW’s ‘rain bomb’ event the match was scuppered.
Westfields will welcome back newly-minted national champion players Sharon Latapu, Ella Ropata and the player of the ASSRL Under-18s National Championships bulldozing front-rower Felila Fakalelu.
The trio, who were part of NSW CHS’s national title win, will go head-to-head with teammate and Australian Schoolgirls representative Logan Fletcher.
The Matraville speedster has enjoyed a monster month of football, making her NRLW debut for the Sydney Roosters, scoring a try in the top flight, before starring for NSW CHS at Coffs Harbour.
Fletcher will be one of the key threats for Westfields to shut down if they want to close out the pool stages of the NRL Schoolgirls Cup undefeated.
Westfields head of sport Troy Weeden said the girls had shown just how good they could be in the early rounds of the competition.
“On both ends of the ball we’ve been pretty impressive,” he said.
“There’s a lot of cohesion with what they do with the ball. Defensively their composure has been strong.
“When they’re pressed on their line, they remain composed and are able to problem solve on the run.”
