PREVIEW
A resurgent Roos outfit has refused to have a peek over the fence despite coming up against one of the Far North Queensland Rugby League big guns.
The Kangaroos, who sit on the cusp of the top six, will clash with second-placed Atherton in what could be an early preview of the FNQRL first grade finals this weekend.
The clash will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV as part of a massive four-game FNQRL extravaganza which kicks off with a women’s clash between Kangaroos and Mossman at 4.30pm.
The Kangaroos have been on a tear over the past month, winning three-straight around their bye to put themselves squarely in the finals hunt.
While the Roosters, who have only dropped two games all season, pose a completely fresh challenge for the Roos, coach Bradley Stephen was showing no signs of concern.
“We’re more so just worried about ourselves,” Stephen said.
“They’ve got a quality team but, as long as we stick to our guns, we’ll be fine.
“Everyone on the team knows their role.
“As long as we focus on what we can control, the result will take care of itself.”
The Roos will take confidence out of a last round 12-point triumph over Mareeba, one of the two sides to take down the Roosters.
Atherton has been the talk of the town this season with the arrival of the Herd brothers, Rhylee and Regan, from Ivanhoes helping turn the tablelands toilers into a premiership powerhouse.
The Roosters sit four-wins clear of the Roos, and will cement their place in the FNQRL finals with a win on Saturday.
The live stream action kicks off at 1.30pm with the Roos and Roosters U19s followed by the reserves before the clash between Kangaroos and Mossman-Port Douglas’ women’s teams at 4.30pm and finally the men’s A-Grade at 6pm.
