Yarrabah Seahawks has pulled off an extraordinary win in a Far North Queensland Rugby League A-grade boilover.
The Seahawks defeated Mareeba Gladiators 32-26 at Jilara Oval to secure just their second win of the 2025 campaign.
The Gladiators, who have been a resurgent outfit in 2025, were battered in the opening 10 minutes, trailing 10-0 before they knew what had hit them.
And while the visitors worked their way into the game, Yarrabah always seemed to have the answers.
But just as the game appeared beyond all doubt, a Bronson Ryan try with just minutes to spare saw the Gladiators cut the margin back to within a converted try.
Some gamesmanship in the scrums and several penalties later, the Gladiators had their chance just inches from the tryline.
But desperate defence from the Seahawks helped them stave off their opponents for an incredible victory.

The Seahawks fullback had a day to remember, helping to lift his side to a stirring comeback which included the match-winning try on the stroke of full time.
The win is just the Seahawks’ second for the season, while for Mareeba its a loss which could prove costly to their finals chances.
Yarrabah’s women’s side secured a strong 46-24 victory over Ivanhoes in the opening fixture of Sunday’s action.

A combination of strong attack and impenetrable defence saw them take an unassailable lead early in the second half.
However, the Maidens weren’t willing to go down without a fight, scoring four second half tries to salvage some pride from a disappointing result.
Lakeisha Ulutui put in an extraordinary shift off the bench, running in four tries for the victors.
Five-eighth Nina Brim scored two tries for Ivanhoes.
PREVIEW
Yarrabah will look to further stamp its authority on the Far North Queensland Rugby League women’s title race when they host Ivanhoes on Sunday.
In a match that will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV as part of a four-game extravaganza in Round 10, the Seahawks will look to extend their lead on the ladder over the rest of the competition.
Due to a rare quirk in the FNQRL women’s draw, the clash will also mark the third time in four weeks that the pair have faced off.
The Maidens will be determined to turn the tide in their favour in Round 10 after closing the gap between the two sides across the past month.
The Seahawks were utterly dominant in their first clash in round 7, winning 52-12.
But the margin closed significantly a fortnight later on the Maidens’ home deck, with the Seahawks prevailing 38-30.
Ivanhoes coach Elio Oberleuter revealed her side had been crippled by injuries in the first matchup and is only just now starting to come back into shape.
“I think we were down to 11 players on the field in that first game by the end just because of injuries,” Oberleuter said.
“It’s been a constant struggle all season, we’re actually actively recruiting right now to try and top up our forward pack in particular.
”It’s gotten to the point where I’m taking the field rather than coaching from the sidelines as I wanted to be.”
It will be that forward pack which could prove crucial to this fixture, with Oberleuter saying if they can get that area of the field right they’re in with a chance.
“We have to get into the grind and try to wear them down in that area, we did a better job of that in the second game so I think we’ll double down on that,” she said.
“We’re not that far away and I think the girls are confident we can get the best of them if we play the right way.”
The women’s showdown will open up a big day of action, with the Seahawks taking on the Mareeba Gladiators in all three men’s grades from midday.
The Gladiators have been one of the surprise packets of the FNQRL A Grade season, with four wins and a draw, they sit inside the competitions top four at the halfway point in the season.
Despite a three-try haul to halfback Izack Toby last weekend, the Gladiators were humbled by reigning champions Brothers and will be determined to get back into the winner’s circle.
